for some reason it seems that im getting a hint of compression on my master bus :hmmm:

i have no bus comp running but as soon as i raise my kick into the bus channel it acts like a compressor. if i route everything direct to the output channel i dont have this problem. any ideas? (sx3)

What kind of mixer are we talking about?A Desk or Cubase or what?

ah I see now cubase SX3.

yup.. which to me is very confusing as the digital domain really shouldnt be adding anything thats not put there..

maybe its my ears perceving it as compression as its quite a huge subby kick that im putting in?.. some sort of auditory hallucination?

I dont know. If it was an analog desk or something sure. But cubase? Thats weird. Have you tried it with other kicks to see what happens?

Is the cubase mixer trying to mimic a desk? Digital distortion is pretty horrible, maybe its a feature of the new mixer - limiting compression to avoid clipping...

speculating here though. Couldn't run sx3 on my setup, too unstable.

i think it was just my ears with the subby kick.. tried a standard 909 kick and it sounded fine. ran that thru an ssl comp and it still sounded pretty ok so it must have been some weird auditory hallucination..

ill post up a clip of the track in a while and you'll be able to hear it.

I could swear i have read something about cubase behaving in such a way (i.e. simulating analog cliiping rather than harsh digital clipping) if you overdrive channels. Dunno exactly, though.
