Uber underground French House label Robsoul Recordings comes to town for their first ever London party.
One of the most respected labels around with a plethora of varied releases spanning both House and Techno, this one off party is certainly not one to miss. There’s a reason why artists like Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Mark Farina, David Duriez, No Assembly Firm and Chris Carrier decided to release some of their most underground workings on Robsoul, and that’s because – like its founder Phil Weeks’ live shows – Robsoul aren’t frightened to put out whatever sounds good to the ear.
With a line-up as underground as Robsoul’s output, Phil Weeks takes the opportunity to showcase his own skills alongside label favourite and fellow Frenchman Chirs Carrier. As if that wasn’t enough they are joined by legends Evil Eddie Richards, Dave Mothersole and Pure Science (Live) to make the event truly heavyweight. Acid Casuals complete the line-up over Corsica’s two killer sound systems.
This party is being thrown in association with us at Brand New Fiction and we’ll be implementing Phil’s plans for the evening. Brand New Fiction’s own guests over the last 6 months have included Derrick Carter (twice), Mark Farina, Kenny Hawkes, DJ Sneak, Octave One, Daniel Bell and heaps more, but even by those standards this party is surely the coolest we’ve been involved with so far. We’ve been told to expect special Robsoul touches throughout the night. What this means we don’t even know! But we do know Robsoul parties at the Miami Music Conference have become some of the most infamous in recent years – it’s time to find out why!
Perfect for seeing quality acts up close and personal, Corsica Studios is a venue with character! Sandwiched between a number of brick railway arches the space always has at least two rooms, a large semi-covered outdoor terrace and Funktion One sound systems throughout. You can forget queuing systems to go outside for a smoke, large characterless rooms, overcrowding and over priced drinks … it’s clubbing without over regulation, where you can come and properly let go… it’s clubbing the way it’s supposed to be.

Phil Weeks (Robsoul, Paris)
Phil Weeks is a House music purist. His mixing is old-school Chicago with a nu-school French flare. His live mixes go from the deepest house to the techiest and he’s not afraid to drop mind bending and acidic tunes in along the way. Phil’s live sets are very much focused on the dance floor so fasten your dancing shoes on tight. His production sounds like it could have been released in the 90's partly because he uses the same gear - 808's, 909's, 606's, even vintage keys.
Chris Carrier (Robsoul, Paris)
As well as being one of the worlds most exciting producers and DJs, Chris Carrier is label manager for Chronobrain, Taka, Combustible, Adult Only, X86 and Direct Art. Chris started in the underground scene in1994 with a couple of releases with DJ Stephanovitch on Hexagonal (Techno label UK) and a few years later founded Chronobrain Records with Guillaume la Tortue. Following Chronobrain’s runaway success five subdivisions were added in just 2 years.
Chris is very much the type of artist who likes to keep his head down and let the music do the talking. You won’t find any self publicity out there! Everything has come organically because the music Chris plays and makes sells itself.
Evil Eddie Richards
Eddie Richards often refered to as "Britain's godfather of House and Techno" was one of the first DJs to champion house music back in the mid 1980s and one of the UK's original mix DJs residing at London's Camden Palace, voted best club in the world in Record Mirror. After playing at such influential and original underground clubs as Clink St. and Heaven in London and Manchester's Hacienda, Eddie Richards went on to headline the legendary UK pay parties Sunrise, Energy and Helter Skelter among many others. Remix and production work led to the release of club classics; Acidman in 1988 which hit National Top 20, followed by other chart topping remixes of Ralphi Rosario, Orbital and The Shamen. Since the mid 80s he has been included in virtually every book, documentary and film on the dance culture and sought after all over the world for his flawless mix of deep bass driven techno with soulful and tough house, a format he has always maintained, and has led him to be widely regarded as the pioneer of what is now known as tech-house’.
If you can find Eddie’s 1995 Essential Mix to download it’s definitely worth a listen. Complete with that authentic grainy tape recording sound it’s truly magical!
Dave Mothersole
Taking his early influences from the beach parties that so amazed him in Goa during the middle to late eighties and combining them with the original spirit of acid house, Dave Mothersole started DJ'ing in 1990. He initially made a name for himself on the early tech house scene playing at parties like Wiggle and Heart & Soul. Unpredictable but always exciting, his driving tech-y rhythms, emotive melodies and psychedelic like keys have seen him captivate crowds at many of the worlds leading clubs. Zouk (Singapore), Love-e (Sau Paolo), Fuse (Brussels), Dance Valley (Holland) and locals Homelands, Fabric and The End are just a few of the venues and events he's played, having taken his unique sound to parties in over 50 different countries. Production wise he's released on labels like Swag, Eukahouse, Intrinsic Design and Sensi and has put out four groundbreaking compilation CD's. Dave also previously presented a weekly show on Kiss FM for 5 years.

Pure Science is another act who strongly believes the music should do the talking and we’d recommend you check out his myspace and let it do just that…

In 1990 label bods from GTI Records (now Kickin) who had heard The Scientist (AKA Pure Science) playing venue’s like the Fridge in Brixton, (Passion 90) linked up a meeting between the Scientist and up-coming Jungle Don, Dj Hype. Between them, they created huge tracks such as, The Exorcist, The Bee and Kick Squad (Champion Sound). With much support from London’s Pirate radio stations, such as Fantasy FM. The Exorcist reached number One in the Dance charts and was voted top track by KISS FM (who had just recently been legalised). During 90/91 The Scientist started to tour Europe as a live act. Never one to follow the straight line, the Scientist worked freelance with alternative artists such as, Terry Hall, Malcolm McLaren and Mica Paris. (To name-drop, but a few).
In 96 now permanently going by the name Pure Science he released the monster groove track, Africa, on Rehab via Zoom records. Later in 97, he signed to Lunar Tunes, (Eddie Richards label) where Pure Science released works under the monikers of SCI-Fi and the de-Ranger - collaborations with Evil Eddie himself. This same year Pure Sceince also won, Muzik mags Best new DJ award. He was now in much demand for live shows. While still holding down a residency at Fabric where he also released one of their early compilation CDs he toured the world playing live.
Recent times have seen Pure Science playing live far too infrequently as demand for his production skills has led him to play key roles on other musician’s projects. That’s why we’re so excited to have him out of the studio to play live at the intimate Corsica Studio’s where he’ll be finishing the night off in style.

Further support comes from Acid Casuals DJs PAPS (AKA Cian Ciaran of the Super Furry Animals), The 5pm Fridays and Mark James who in-between busy schedules have found time to produce strongly supported tracks (Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink and Co) released on major labels such as Novamute and Below.
