This Thursday one of Germany's most respected and accomplished
DJ's, Andre Galluzzi flies in from Berlin for his first Irish DJ set at
Electric City. Alongside Paul Brtschitsch, Andre is a member of one of the
finest techno acts to emerge within the last few years, Taksi. Originally
hailing from Frankfurt, Galluzzi has been based in Berlin since 1998. This
is where they have been releasing tracks on their own Taksi Music label to
great acclaim from techno's DJ's the world over. Richie Hawtin & Sven Vath
are big fans of Taksi's work and can be regularly heard playing their
tracks. Hawtin was so impressed by one of their releases 'Schneesturm' he
licensed the track for his Plus 8 label and contributed a remix. Taksi have
also released on German heavyweight labels such as Force Inc, Trapez, and
Ongaku (under the name Night on Earth).
These releases saw them create their own sound which comes from Andre's
experience in DJing & Paul's technical abilities. This Taksi sound ranges
from dark and spacey techno to the carefree house-orientated music. In 2000
Taksi released their debut album 'Rundfahrt'. The title track from the LP
provided us with one of the anthems of that year and is now regarded as a
modern day techno classic. So popular was Rundfahrt that it led to Belgian
label Music Man re-releasing it with a remix from Electric City favourite
Steve Rachmad.
Before Taksi was born, Andre had already established himself as one of
Germany's Bundesliga DJ's by playing top flight clubs like Tresor (where he
was resident between '96 & '98), Dorian Gray in Frankfurt, & the de-funct
Ostgut in Berlin. His 10-hour marathon sets are legendary and deservedly
have gained a place in German techno folklore.
Andre has released two highly creditable mix CD's: 'Im Garten' which pays
tribute to his Residency at the Ostgut club and more recently for the
Essential Underground series alongside another Electric City favourite John
Selway. For his third CD, which will be released in January 2004, Andre has
recorded a mix for the famous Würzburg club 'Airport'.
