Governed by conservative licensing laws, Britain has been raised in a strict race-against-the-clock pub culture, where glasses are downed as fast and frequently as possible before the “last call” bell rings. Nothing is more liberating to a Londoner than the idea of a 24 hour party culture; the excitement of being able to keep going for as long as mind, body and soul will allow. The feeling that something could last forever is a powerful one. When the party is good, it should continue.
Our rather epic 10th birthday party this past October, which was a rampant success for 30 hours straight, solidified the writing on the wall: London is fully prepared to carry on and on…and on. And so are we.
On Saturday, 6 March we will begin a series of parties that are a celebration of dance, music, sleep deprivation and our 24 hour license. Opening at 11pm on Saturday night, the music will not stop until early Monday morning (once again we will be open for 30 hours nonstop). The concept is simple: to keep going whilst taking in the different moods as the evening unfolds into daytime and then into night again. Far from being an endurance test, it presents the chance to get more from an evening at fabric - more time in darkness, more music, more artists…the operative word is ‘more.’
Some people may opt to come down on Saturday and see where the night takes them, some may pop down after a Sunday breakfast to dive deep into fascinating electronic soundscapes during the day, and some might just come for the last stretch on Sunday eve. Some people will come and go over the prolonged period. Some will never leave.
“What better use can be made of the daylight hours than dancing in the dark, it always feels great. There's something wonderful about not knowing what time it is. For us it’s a chance to present more - some artists will play longer sets, some will play two sets with different flavours.
Fabric has always been a late night club. Many times it’s felt the night could go on forever. Many times it has. After the resounding success of our last birthday, we decided that every once in a while we should go ON AND ON...On into the day and on and into the next night. Sometimes the music won't let you stop, every so often on a Saturday night we intend to let it keep going.”
