Ok, I`m allready prepared for the heckles and the slaggin`s, but I gotta say this, as I`ve been pontificating over this for a while.
Is it about time that stay up forever retired?
I have followed the label, since day 1 and own all of the 1st 30 releases, I was a punter on the London Techno Acid scene way back when the labels were fledglings, and I believe Stay Up Forever is one of the main labels responsible for starting a new movement within dance music. the label brought a punk, care free attitude to dance music and also humour too. But over the last few years as the London Acid Techno Crew grew tired of their old sound they began to focus individualy on their own new directions, and slowly, the styles changed.
But SUF seemed to try to hold on to the old sound, and now seems a pale imitation of itself, the breakdown vocals are getting a little tired now, and the 303`s has lost their initial energy and originality.
I feel like the label is being continued just for the sake of it, and no real effort or passion is behind the releases anymore.
this label, among some others from the Original London Techno Mafia, is responsible for my involvement in the scene. Without these records, I would never have discovered the Parties, become a punter, and eventually involved in running a rig. I would never have ended up (accidentally) putting on Big nasty warehouse parties in London Myself, and from this, ended up turning my studio production output, over to techno and finally running my own label.
I owe acid techno a lot.
And thats why I don`t like to see this once fantastic label, slowly dying away into mediocrity. I say kill it now, while it still has it`s dignity.
Maybe a new label instead, Stay Alive Forever?
