View Full Version : Hardstyle vs Techno

As hardstyle gets more and more generic, ive found myself drifting over to techno for my hard kicks. What is everyone else's opinion on techno music? Why do you listen to/ play hardstyle instead of techno? I find a lot a techno very 'cold' and inaccessible, unless i'm in a club environment i find it hard to concentrate enough on the rhythms and layers of techno to enjoy it fully, for a short burst of stomping music i find myself slapping hardstyle on.

To be totally honest though i think techno has a lot more respect for it. I would feel much more confident playing techno to people as an example of 'hard' music than i would hardstyle, but im not sure why...

I cant get enough of the kinda tech coming from sven wittikend, amok and skull tunes etc.... i always been into it but.

Would ave to say it gets me going slightly more than hardstyle... wouldnt wanna choose between the 2, but if i had to i think my heart would go to the tech.

Its just so evil!

I've never liked techno, just my taste - not saying it's good or bad but personally I just can't get into it. I find it dull, hard to dance to and hard to listen to, and thats not without giving it a go on many occasions due to so many underground music heads recommending it.

along with speedcore techno is my fav genre of music, Im not really into hard german stuff & acid/london techno that a lot of you are into, I'm more into detroit techno and dark industrial techno.

techno gets me going more in a club but when i'm at home i'll put some hardstyle on on most occasions, There both quality genre's.

I enjoy listening to both when in the house! In the car i enjoy a bit of both and in a club i love listening and stomping to hardstyle and techno! both are quality genres but my fave out the two has to be hardstyle!!

I love techno, makes me dance funny.

But i find hardstyle more interesting and more powerfull with the build ups and phat basslines.
Could not choose between the 2 though, they are both special for seperate reasons. :rambo:

I'm guessing it's because (like me) he values you lot's opinion. It feels like you can't see one of those magic eye pictures - everyone else raves about techno and says it's harder than anything, had loads of different levels, is the best to dance to etc - but I just can't see it, and i've sure tried.

Not a go or anythin... but why try and like something if ur hearts not in it just because others like it?

Because as voorheez says it feels like im missin out on somethin. Its like how I first got into hard trance.. My mates liked it but I thought it was gash until I was bombarded with it for awhile and I grew to love it! The same could happen with techno..... Oh, and I wouldnt play tunes I didnt like whats the point inthat?

Yeah deffo mate, not tryin to ave a go or anythin... but u know... music has so many different styles that it gives u such an oppertunity to express ur own style. And im very sure u ave urs? I allways used to find Techno at difficult genre of music to get into, i used to find it too progresive. but i must say that in the last year or so i've really got into. I think this is because there seems to be a lot more use of different sounds in the techno tracks that i've been listening to. I also like the fact that techno can be fused with other dance music genre's, mainly Hardstyle.

The reason for me is because I like pretty much every other style of dance music, the only one I don't like too much is techno. As has been mentioned here before there are many different styles of techno, so I want to make sure i've experienced them all and given it a really good try before I resign myself to the fact that I just don't like it.

I think my attitude is the right one - I know people who give things little chance before declaring that they absolutely don't like it and never will. I'm pretty open minded and have a pretty eclectic music taste, after all its better to experiment with all kinds of music. I'd appreciate any links people can give, any recommendations to any kind of techno that I might perhaps enjoy because i'm fast losing interest in hardstyle, more so everyday and the worrying thought is that there really isn't anything else I like out there at the moment.

I don't find one better than another. However, many people will argue that Hardstyle is much easier to produce than Techno.

The only techno producers/DJs that do it for me are Leo Laker (aka Switchblade) and DJ Rush (aka Major Rush). Theyre not the most technical DJs out there, but they're the only ones that dish out enough bass to satisfy me.
