Found this a few years ago and just found it again - thought I would share it as its a great explanation of all the different roots for each genre

Interesting, but there are some errors in there. The first synthesizer was invented by Thadeus Cahill and unveiled for the first time in 1902. He called it the Telharmonium and it was a bit of a beast - it weighed something like 200 tons, and as amplification had not yet been invented, it was played over the telephone network, with phone recievers that had megaphones fitted to them as speakers.

Sorry to be geeky, but I happen to know a fair bit about this particular subject - I could go into great detail, but it would be boring.

i watched a program on this the other day. how elisha grey was the first to transport any sound through a copper wire using a keyboard type thing.

then the race began to invent the telephone with bell.

who won again~?
