IF129 – THE DEMISE – MIKE HOLMES

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/teknonotice/demise.jpg

Release Information:

‘The Demise’ is the debut release from Mike Holmes, one half of the UK’s Dead
Agenda. This release has already attracted the attention of Regis (Sandwell
District), which is surely an indication that Mike is making all the right moves with
his productions.

Remix duties have been fulfilled by JE:5 aka Jesse Hall of Tresor fame who serves
up no-nonsense version of The Demise. IF? regular Enclave hones his style with
every release and this one is no exception. Little Nobody needs no introduction
and neither does his remix; quintessential.

FEEDBACK:

REGIS (British Murder Boys/OVR/Downwards/Sandwell District):
Great work mate ... !!!!! The mean streets of Chester just got meaner, thanks to
Mike Holmes!

JEROME HILL:
Checked it properly I like! All the mixes are great if I had to pick my favourite to
twist and rock up a floor it would be a close call between JE:5 and Little
Nobody but the Original and the Enclave are in turn lush and disturbed but not
necessarily what I’d play out ! Congrats on the release -))

BAS MOOY (Audio Assault / Darknet):
Like the Little Nobody remix! Will be played

WYNDELL LONG:
Like the JE:5’s remix of The Demise. The rest are a little to out there for my
sets.

DJ ZE MIG-L:
Still prefer the original I think. The remixes are strong in a more left field kind of
techno.

SEBASTIAN BAYNE (Cliq Records):
Great release. Will play the JE:5 remix as well as the original.

BEN MILL (Gynoid Audio/Elektrax/Hypnotic Room/IF?/Perspectiv):
Really dug the creeped out vibe of the whole release. Especially dug the quasi
'Detroit' feel of JE:5's Brutal Demise remix :)

CUT BIT MOTORZ:
The Demise is cool! I like the Original and Enclave Remix

DAN HULTUM: (DEAD AGENDA)
On the whole a nice twisted sound. Love the originals ruff and ready dark sounds!
Great stuff!

KIDD LUCKY
Very nice, with a classical sci-fi touch.

AUZZIEHOOD
Loving the darkness.

KWARTZ
Nice, rare sensations.

DJ MARKUTZ (NONOM/Z-BOP RECORDS):

A nice first release and remix package from the quality DJ/Producer Mike Holmes.
It also follows greatly, his debut Dead Agenda EP also on IF?. The original is
deep, dark, and moody which is definitely a good combination, especially in
today's underground electronic trends. Working perfectly in the mix it opens itself
up to quality remix possibility which is adopted by 3 also quality producers. The
one for me is JE:5’s onslaught with all the attitude for underground main room business.
Definitely in the crate for the foreseeable future.

SCOTT ROBINSON: (Ugly Funk)
There is a small pocket of resistance amongst electronic music. They don't accept
current trends, they don't accept that a track has to be a formulaic DJ tool, they
simply want to move forward. Mike Holmes' debut E.P. Demise is a spark of new
hope and a welcoming addition to the ongoing resistance.

Demise is the first track released by Mike in a solo capacity and lays the
foundation for what will certainly be a future filled with a break-away electronic
style which is clearly a breath of fresh air to lovers of all things electronic. Demise
is a the mixture of melancholic harmonies over live drum sounds which just works
where so many previous attempts at this style have failed. Plus I couldn't stop
hearing the track in my head for hours after hearing it.

If that wasn't enough Mike lined up some of the resistances top protagonists to
remix Demise. Je5 brings his vast knowledge of all things electronic to the table
proving hardware equipment is still the backbone to a great track. Little Nobody
makes us afraid to walk down a street alone at night with a shroud of dark
industrial undertones and solid beats. Finally Enclave dips the whole track in oil
and watches it bubble to the viscous surface. All in all one of the most interesting
E.P.s out so far this year and a pleasure to get the chance to review
