Are they actually working? This goes to most new members really.
Is anyone on here a Slinky goer who's been converted to Mark's "sound".
I am by no means trying to provoke a confrontation I'm genuinely interested to see if this is working.

I reckon the intimacy of the whole underground gets lost in that club.

Corbz sometimes you really disappoint me. You don't look further than your nose. Perhaps I wish I knew you better. I think we'd have alot to talk about.

Look I know it looks like I'm over-reacting to this post, but I know Corzy's net manner well and I need to say this.

I'm not playing Slinky cause it's an underground venue. Yes, the WHOLE intimacy of the underground IS lost in that club but there IS a place it the corner of that club where there is a serious music vibe. And we need those people in underground music. So next time I play an 'underground' venue perhaps they'll turn up. And they'll share the intimacy that we all know exists in venues where the promoters are in it for the music and people look at each other because of a hi-hat change :)

As far as I'm concerned, if I achieve that, that's my job done. And done proud.

What we don't need is musical snobs. And that's where Corz and me differ. Because Corz is one. I hate this!!! It ruins underground music!!! It creates barriers and boundaries where there shouldnt be. Corbz laughs at hard house people and Slinky ppl when they show an interest, but he's chasing ppl away from good music!

Loads of ppl do this. They laugh and snigger like children. Which achieves nothing for music. All it does in my eyes is make their ego's bigger and keeps everything for themselves.

Corbzy I love ya. You're a long term and valued member of this forum but please please sit down and think about what I'm saying. Don't just hit reply and immediately get defensive cause that's not why I'm writing this at 4am in the morning (when I really should be listening to my records for tomorrow!!!)

After so many years doing this I really feel conversion and education is the key.

Hear Hear!

As far as I can see, the greater amount of education which a part of the underground scene
has employed for some years past, is an evil. It is dangerous because it makes ppl
independent. You see the aim of education is the knowledge not of fact, but of values.
Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do
not use compulsion, but let early education be rather a sort of amusement; this will
better enable you to find out the natural bent of yourself.

peace

surley it works the other way to ???? like people from the "underground" going to places like slinkys so see mark, instead of the smaller nights on in the same area at the same time ??. like money is tight for most of us and number of nights out can be limited ? so if i say go see mark at slinkys last night i might not now be able to go to the grove next week ?? therefore benifiting the promoter who only cares for money, instead of someone like tommo who in it for the love of music..
i agree totally with what you say mark, but every coin has two sides.
genderisation is what kills the scene, not the venue and who it is played too. i personally belive that mark paying at slinkys brings the music i love to a wider audiance, which in the long term will hopefully benifit me. it aint like hes performing a track from blackout audio on top of the pops !! and if he was so cunting what ???? surley to bang out the music you love to the most widest audience is what its all about ?? who would turn it down ??

MARKEG
07-03-2004, 02:41 PM
hmmm see what you're trying to say. but think about his too: i say that if ppl are into the grove they will save for the grove. just like ppl who were into the country club saved for that. cause that's what part of being something special does to you. they will not go to slinky well perhaps a few will to see what the hype is about or perhaps they will if they have a little bit more aside.

or am i totally wrong?

surely the dance sceene is about enjoying yourself to music you like, whaching DJs you enjoy, whetjer its Uberdruck or ''Rob Tissera!!''

I go to both commercial and Underground events and it seems stupid to segrigate yourself into one section. If you dont think Mark EG should play slinky- Fair Play, however I only got intrested in undergound stuff after seeing Mark play Scream!

He also has not just dissapeared from the underground sceene!

IF YOU DONT LIKE HIM PLAYING SLINKY, DONT GO!!!!

 :bash: Arrrrrh your missing the point, this isn't a "Oh my god Mark Eg's playing at Slinky" post I want to hear from people who perhaps never heard of him before Slinky and thought hey this guys playing some pretty shit hot music, not just Slinky either, any big club/event.

And was that "why" directed at me or Corbzy?

Mark is now one of the most popular Djs in the Dance sceene now, seeing him has made many people lose faith in the commercial djs.

I reckon if you were to have him or the 'tidy boys' djing on the same night in the same town all the so called 'new age hard housers' who had seen him play would go to see him.

or would you rather there were no new comers into the undergroud sceene, just the current punters forevermore?????

I dont see a problem with mark djing at slinky, i think its a good step to bring the people that like that side of the music scene into the right place. It opens windows to people that they thought were never there. I mean i was the same. I used to only go dance academy when the tidy boys were there when all i knew about was hard house. And one night we all went to a night when mzone was playing, that changed me forever!
So i think this is a very good idea.
The only thing i dont like is the people that go out an dont really care about the music, there not bothered wether its lee haslam or chris lib. And even though these people may be really cool people, and i dont have anything against them, they can spoil the underground feel that i love.

==========================================

I went to this On Friday night, thought the night was okay, needed more than my square foot too dance in. I havn't been to the OH for about three years on a slinky night, and would have to say the crowd are definately a little better educated on techno, and hard trance than in 2001, and the crowd went for it right through mark's set...

but yes a lot of the ppl in that club are still new to dropping beans, new to any scene, new to dancing in a club and yes they like there beer, but we all started somewhere... I never see any shit with the slinky crowd's either..

did anyone go? did anyone see that dwarf?

support your local underground scene, not your local money making dickheads

Although I think people should definiely support local nights, you can't tell people what to do. You have to let them make the choice of going to your night because they want to... as opposed to you wanting to be there as you've worked hard with little cash.

I wish you Corbz and anyone else doing the local nights all the best... after all these people are the future. However big nights put a lot of hardwork in... and just cause they make money out of it doesn't make them dickheads... it's called a business. they make money out of giving people good line ups and good venues. If all clubs were as devoted as country club then country club wouldn't of been so special.

I reckon it must be working, although I can't say for certain. From my experiences in clubs people who have never heard of mark eg before end up loving him by the end of his set. Some people won't like him but that comes down to musical taste... for the people that like it hard, he is the man.

Slinky is a big event and caters for most commercial and SOME underground trance doesn't it? So surely some of these people at Slinky will hear the harder edge and think "fukking great... I love this..." and because they haven't explored outside of slinky or perhaps slinky style evetns... they will go looking for where Mark Eg next plays... and then they will see other DJ's and so on.

At least that's how I feel it works and I believe what Mark is doing is working... and its the people he gets interested in the harder edge of music that may one day be paying the door fee's for line ups and events or even records people like you and me may create... so I have nothing but respect for him in what he is doing as it gives all of us more friends and a bigger audiance, if you intend to make or mix music for a living in the future.

what a crock of shit ! 3 points from my head !

A - Who really gives a shit what / where others play , if its good and you get respect from doing it , then fine , dont be a lame brain and take things so personally it makes you look a twonk ! If you dont like it then fine ok , discuss the subject , maybe discussing may change things for the better !

B - Its hard enough to get in the industry without Limited minds making it harder.

C - Ok its harder to make a buck underground , as at the end of the day thats a key player in why we do this , REPSPECT is the key player , ok its easier to be comercial , but hey isnt that life all round ? Fashion , Gadgets !?

So i dont wear designer labels , does that make me a bad person ?

I dont like flat screen TV's ,does that make me a bad person !

With the latest going on's it makes you think , why the cunt hair shall i bother even trying !

Dj / Artists coming out the woodwork making / doing same old shit !

Very Hard industry at the moment !

To many chiefs not enough indians !
