February line ups for Marco Carola's London techno night....

THURSDAY 13 FEBRUARY: DARK HOUSE MUSIC PARTY

Residents MARK BROOM and TERRY MITCHELL with special guests
MARK WILLIAMS (ARTIFICIAL VINYL/ DARK HOUSE MUSIC)
DAMON VALLERO - Live (ELECTRACOM/ DARK HOUSE MUSIC)

Devoted to floor-friendly 12"s since it's inception in 1997, London techno label, Dark House Music has seen projects from the likes of Ben Sims, Marco Bailey, Robert Armani, Cari Lekebusch, Scan X, DJ Rush, Frankie Bones and Trevor Rockcliffe, to name just a few. Label leader and System resident, Terry Mitchell presents this special party where he'll be joined by fellow Dark Housers Mark Broom, Mark Williams and Damon Vallero.

Mark Williams is no newcomer to the scene after kick-starting his career back in the 80's at the infamous parties: Energy and Sunrise. Mark's DJ career then progressed into London clubs: Open (Ministry of Sound), Final Frontier, Drum Club, Sex Love & Motion and Full Circle. Producing was his next step, working alongside Matt Clayden under the guise of M&M. Later, as the techno/hard house scene moved on, Mark and Matt changed their style leaving M&M behind and becoming 'Acorn Arts' with their label X Gate. After a couple of years as the dance scene fractured, Mark felt it was time go it alone, taking 'Acorn Arts' with him. In 1998 he completed the Worldwide Ultimatum '98 Tour with the legendary Carl Cox and supported Billy Nasty in the Torture Chamber World Tour, with gigs like The Incredible Matrix in Zurich, Tech in Miami at The Winter Music Conference, Voodoo in Liverpool and The End in London. He also played at Alien Night in Slovenia with a very up for it crown of 5000. After finding his true production style some of his best work to date include tracks on System resident, Terry Mitchell's Dark House Music (http://www.darkhousemusic.com), Carl Cox's Ultimate Trax, Billy Nasty's, Tortured, Ben Sims' Ingoma and Gayle San's Equator.

Damon Vallero grew up in South Africa and first got hooked into making electronic music when he went along with friends to buy a synthesiser and soon after bought his first Roland synth and Korg drum machine. With a friend on bass they produced two demo tracks and 3 months later were signed to WEA Records. This provided the springboard into the production side just before the house music explosion of the mid to late eighties. He was a member of the Swanhunters who released an anti apartheid industrial funk 12" to critical acclaim, but it was after buying a tape "Techno : The New Dance Sound Of Detroit" that he became hooked on the banging beats and has never looked back. Damon now runs the Electracom label and records under various guises, namely Auto Union, Bioscope Man and F-Controller. Electracom started in 96 with the first Auto Union release and was initially a platform for Damon’s own tracks. However over the past few years various artists have recorded for the label, predominantly Japanese techno producer Takaaki Itoh who is now rapidly emerging as a major talent with a unique style and growing plaudits. Others include Philadelphia’s Bob Brown, Hiroaki Iizuka and Inigo Kennedy one of the scene’s leading producers. Damon’s releases have been played out by the likes of Luke Slater, Ritchie Hawtin, Dave Angel and Dave Clarke among others. He has recorded for Flatline Recordings, Exhibit and has releases upcoming on Dark House Music, On_Test Recordings and Electracom.

BETO CERRUTI (BUSH RECORDS/ ACCESS 58)
PHIL QUENUM (ACCESS 58/ MUTANT SOUL)
PAOLO NASCIMENTO (ACCESS 58/ MUTANT SOUL) - Semi Live

Access 58 are Paulo Nascimento & Philippe Quenum, who met in London in the mid-nineties. Paulo Nascimento (AKA Urban Ritual) was born in Portugal, trained in classical music then graduated from London's Institute of Music and Technology in 1993. He's produced music since 1995 and founded Access 58 with Philippe Quenum a year later. Born in France and living between Switzerland and the U.K., Quenum has been DJing since the early 80's worldwide. The music of Access 58 is a form of minimal and tribal techno with a touch of house and experimental sounds. Their live set is a slamming, funky dancefloor experience, especially when complemented by the DJing skills of Quenum. Having initially released music on London's Pacific Records imprint since 1997, Access 58 have established their own record label a year later while putting out remixes and other tracks on Mental Groove, Primary, React, Eukatech, Artform, Mentor, Pocket/Music Man, On Test, Pure Plastic, Mutant Soul, Front Room, The Patterns Of Change. They now release on Music Man and use the Access 58 label for other artists and collaborations. Since 2001, Access 58 have also teamed up with classical/jazz trained Portuguese keyboardist Nuno Filipe for the Jaam project, whose releases on Mutant Soul Records also feature remixes by Rollercone, Alex Attias and Jimpster. Mutant Soul is their outlet for more downtempo, house, broken beat and jazzy releases. Collaborators and remixers of Access 58 include Trevor Rockcliffe, Colin Dale, Mark Broom, Marco Lenzi, Mark Williams, Umek, The Advent, Cari Lekebusch, Steve Stoll, Pacou, Jamie Anderson and Valentino Kanziani. About twenty Access 58 tracks have been licensed to countless compilations and labels, among which Eukatech, News, Trust The DJ, V2, XXX, Primal/Pure Sonik, DJ Magazine, Intergroove, Molecular, Area Code +221, Next Era and others. Access 58 have played some amazing clubs & events such as The End, Base, Velvet Rooms, The Complex, The Falcon, Kiss FM, Fashion Week @ ICA & Natural History Museum in London and Birmingham's Q Club, the Culture Club in Skopje, Holland's Ahoy, Doornroosje & Melkweg, Formula 111 in Tel Aviv, Tresor, Douala & Schoene Aussichten in Germany , Belgium's Soundstation and Marseilles' Le Cargo.

Making their debuts at this System special, Paolo & Philippe will be joined by the ever prolific Tony Thomas and Bush Record's Beto Cerruti, to deliver some super fresh sounds and deep, funky beats.

THURSDAY 27 FEBRUARY: PRIME PRESENTS...
PAUL MAC "PUSH CAME TO SHOVE" ALBUM LAUNCH PARTY

PAUL MAC (PRIMATE/ STIMULUS)
JOHN WARWICK (TRACKSTER/ MELROB)
STEVE MURRAY (HYDROPHONIC RECORDINGS)

Paul Mac began DJing at the age of 16 as a hip hop DJ but as with so many other DJs at the time, the pull of house and techno became too strong and he began to use his carefully honed mixing skills in that direction. His earliest experiments in the studio go back to '95 and he released his first EP on Josh Brent's Not Guilty label which went on to receive support from such heavy weight DJs as Derrick May and Colin Faver. Encouraged by this, Paul sent out demos which resulted in a series of releases on Fracture (Blueprint's sister label) and a long standing set-up with Fragmented Records. Paul soon set up his own label, Stimulus Recordings which led to collaborations with artists such as Ben Sims, James Ruskin, Ben Long, Mark Broom, 65D Mavericks, Hardcell, Oscar Mulero and Takaaki Itoh. It also kick-started Paul's international DJ bookings. Since then, Paul started the C-Side label and has recorded for a host of other highly respected labels including Primary, Mosaic, Surface, Ongaku, Phont and Primevil.

John Warwick, when not A&R'ing forthcoming tracks for the array of in house labels, spends his time overseeing the parent company, Prime Distribution, recording tracks as both Melrob or Traxster or DJ ing at the many Primate parties he throws around the world, including a monthly residency at Manchester's Intergalactic Funk. His passion for all things Prime related remains undiminished despite being at the helm for the past 8 years, and it is precisely this enthusiasm that is fundamental to both Prime, and Primate's continued success.

Another Prime-ster, Steve Murray first began DJing in the bandana-wearing days of acid house. Gaining his first residency at Republica in 1990, spinning house & Balearic, he continued to build his name with regular sets at clubs like Go West (London), Use Your Loaf and Club Foot (both Brighton) where he eventually began to move into more techno grooves. Now known for techno he has since held residencies at clubs like Restless Natives and Analogue Underground. His DJing skills abroad to the States and parts of Europe. As a producer he’s recorded Organ Grinder and the Primate Endangered Species series as well as his own recently formed Hydrophonic Recordings.

Paul Mac's new album 'Push Came To Shove' is out March 2003 on
