I THINK A GOOD IDEA FOR US ON THE BOARD TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHERS TASTES AND STYLE WOULD BE TO HAVE A SUGGESTED LISTENING TOPIC, GET A LINK TO A TRACK OR A SET YOUR FEELING RIGHT NOW AND DESCRIBE BRIEFLY WHY IT'S RELEVANT TO YOU AND WHY WE SHOULD HEAR IT TODAY. I THINK IT WILL MAKE US A BIT MORE UNDERSTANDING OF EACH OTHERS TASTES. NOT ONLY IS THIS A WAY TO FORM SOME KIND OF UNITY AMONG THE BOARD THRU UNDERSTANDING BUT TO EDUCATE AS WELL, I KNOW SOME PEOPLE INTO SOME OFF THE WALL SHIT ON THIS BOARD AND IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR SOME OF THE YOUNGER TEKKIES TO BE OPENED UP TO

Well after months of begging the board and everyone else I know I have finally received a Live Pa set from the friggin man thanks to the boys at Hardsignal, damn you mofo's do your homeowrk on the set lists! Anyways this is the way it's done man. ANYONE ON THIS BOARD THIS IS MY SUGGESTED LISTENING FOR THE DAY

I've really been feeling this Reeko live PA set on littledetroit.net.

http://www.littledetroit.net/Downloads_files/reeko.zip

It has a very industiral-esque sound and he uses a lot of different bass drum patterns, not just the usual four-on-the-floor stuff.

i really like the surgeon "food for thought mix" as it brings together the stuff that first got me into electronic music (aphex/nitzer ebb) with some of the stuff i am into now (BMB / 65D mavericks), and manages to be intense and laid back at the same time.
amazing mix wish i had done it!

Siamese Dream is a well good album, Melancholy had some great tracks as well.

I have been listening to alot of Hip Hop at the mo, the one that gets hammered over and over again is the DJ Shadow essential mix from last year, absoutely brilliant, but I have no link to it unfortunately, but apparently there is a website you can download them all from (ess. mixes that is), anyone with the address?

Been listening to lots of funk/disco as well, Diana Ross is well bangin, Love Hangover - what a tune! And Micheal Jackson - Off The Wall, this album is seriously good!

Two tracks, twenty five minutes of post rocking industrial soundscapes. Also, in a similar vein Do Make Say Think provide a slightly less bleak view on the world. Well, I`m doing some II work at home at the mo, so I`m listening to stuff all the time.
Today I am listening to
Harold Budd: Lovely Thunder and The White Arcades. Really cool ambient by a guy who does a lot of work with brian eno.

The Young Gods: Second Nature. While everyone gets into industrial and the whole dark thing, these early pioneers of the industrial sound, have grown up, and moved on. This album is the natural progression of what industrial will become. Hard, powerful electronic music, that is beautiful, and organic, and pushes sounds of this genre into something positive and innovative. Maybe the Birmingham boys should listen to this, and realise that mummy does still love them, they can have their lollypop now, and that it is ok to smile.

KK records: Sheen. A complilation of KK records releases circa 1992-94. Filled with clanging indutrial soundscapes and pounding dark industrial floor shakers, by the likes of Sielwolf, Numb and DHI. Incredible production standards, making the current industrial/dark tech crowd seem like a pale copy. Kinda like comparing Busted or Sum42 to Crass and the Sex Pistols.

The Pixies: Surfa Rosa. Important, seminal, genius that spawned many more experimental bands in the US such as the smashing pumpkins.

NIN: The Fragile. Many people accuse trent reznor of dissapearing up his own arse on this double album. And they are basically right. But he moved hard electronic music into a pro-tools environment, and set an as yet, unbeatable production standard. There is some real gold on here.

Well, that`s it at the mo.

Sorry about this everyone but someone needs to put this Dirty Bass in line, whats with all the constant digs about industrial / Birmingham music ?
I dont see any of the Birmingham artists you repetitvely diss giving you grief about your insipid music you make (imo). Your posts are rather patronising at times like everything has been done before / this guys did it first mentallity. Techno is in a bad shape and doesnt need people like you on the negative, whether you are throwing some imaginary gauntlet or not. The scene will inevitably change for the better not the worse. Its ****in' techno after all !

dirty_bass
25-05-2004, 01:51 PM
Chill dude, looks like I`ve hit a nerve, hurragh!!
I`m here to provoke discussion!! I`ve got most of the Birmingham sound in my vinyl collection, and I like it, in fact, I don`t think I have ever said I didn`t, nor have I said it is badly produced, nor in-fact have I "dissed it", at least I can`t seem to see where I have?

I just wish they would cheer up a bit , the world is dark enough as it is.
I`m only trying to educate people outside the current tunnel vision that the techno scene has ended up within.

Man, if they were to diss me, then fair enough, I`d take it on the chin, and wouldn`t cry, cos no one is perfect, least of all me, but I think I diss myself enough as it is, I`m already churning away in my own head trying to find some new direction within techno that is a challenge to the ears and the head, yet still remains danceable.

I had a discussion last week, with Jim Fish at his studio, about what to make, and we both kinda agreed that hard techno is just too damn easy to make. It`s become production over content.

Techno is in bad shape for lots of reasons, and the lack of education, and diversity being one of them. People won`t look outside of the "box" and are guilty of following what they are told is "cool". There is to a certain extent a certain amount of peer pressure holding a lot of producers back as well.

Oh, just as an aside, you seem to have placed my discussions about birmingham sound and industrial into the same brackets.
the Birmingham sound is another splinter of techno, and I don`t really consider those guys to be part of the current dark tech/industrial scene at all.

My comment about sum42 was in reference ot the current industrial music being churned out by the likes VNV nation, Cyberaktif, Gravity Kills and (ugh!!) Industrial Heads.
But I guess if you didn`t know what industrial/dark tech music was then this wouldn`t mean much to you.

I havent listened to Pantera since I found out how racist they are, but Superjoint Ritual is hot to death as well.

I didn't know they were racist,
not impressed :nono:
