This week we welcome only the second female DJ to play at Electric City,
Magda. Born in Poland, this much travelled lady has lived in Texas, Detroit
& New York before finally deciding to settle in the current home of techno,
Berlin. She began DJing in 1996 working her way through the underground
party circuit before joining the all female DJ collective, Women on Wax. It
was only a short while before she began appearing regularly at events and
clubs in Detroit. 1999 saw her initial forays into techno, electro and house
evolve. Her DJ sets were becoming increasingly minimal and the records in
her box reflected a love of weird, challenging music. After being invited by
Richie Hawtin to open for him at his Millennium celebration Epok this
quickly earned her featured spots at many respected clubs, most notably: The
End (London), Sankey's Soap (Manchester), The Temple (Detroit), Loft
(Barcelona) & Fabric (London).

Since then Magda has expanded her work with Hawtin, becoming his sole
choice to open many dates of his DE9:Closer to the Edit tour. She is
increasingly adept at moving any dancefloor with her fusion of Detroit
techno, acid house, new wave, and minimal / experimental techno. Her
DJing has pushed boundaries and won rave reviews during a recent stint
in Europe, again opening for Hawtin and playing with Ricardo Villalobos,
this time as part of his Plastikman tour.

The next few months will see Magda going on her third European tour and
making the step from DJ to producer by releasing music under the
moniker: Run / Stop Restore on Hawtin's Minus label. Through the blips
and bleeps of machine music, Magda has managed to find certain humanity
in circuitry, giving her sets a certain soul, not readily found in the
average techno DJ but then again she isn't the average techno DJ!

Support on the night comes from a drooling - kleenex sponsored Ross
Carew. Always a big favourite of ours this will be his third time to
play the club. His deep minimal sound will supply the perfect warm up to
Magda's set.
