Good year for Games/ Bad year for games ?
Do you think it's been a good year for games or a bad one ?
As a reasonably seasoned gamer, I've noticed a few dissapointing releases and a slew of backchat from the associated forums.
In balance though, we've also had some total stunners, I guess a list might be in order with some comments, so here goes :
Dawn of War 2.....For me - a dissapointment, I still play the original, I just can't be bothered with this new "thing" they've created.
Tales of Valor.....For me a Dissapointment.....could have done with a new faction or summat.
Fallout 3.......Jury's still out, very immersive, had a lot of fun with it, just think in general it looks a bit ugly.
Resident Evil 5......Dissapointment - if they'd have nailed the control system a bit better and made some of the levels a bit less constrictive/on rails - this would have owned.
GTA - DLC - looks like a winner, I've not played all the way through them all, but so far...so good
Blood Bowl - WIN !!!! Love this, but it's still not all I imagined it could be, still, the core gameplay is solid, and that's gotta be in the win column.
Operation Flashpoint 2 - DR - Hmmmm, I'm actually really enjoying this, it's really tough, but it's just not what it was promised to be - so I can't really say it's total win here.
Arma 2 - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, on paper, best game ever, in reality - broken beyond belief. I don't really have time for too much multiplayer these days, if I did , I might see it differently, but I paid for a campaign which is non functional, that's just no good, I hope they fix this someday, cos it really is all that when it works, I've literally never seen anything like it.
DJ hero, many will of course slate it, but If you take it for what it is - a cross between your average Wii game, space invaders and patapon or parrapa the rapper - you won't find better, this game is shed loads of fun, and very social, the tracks look like a cheesefest, but once you get going - they have a way of winning you over. One thing it isn't - is a DJ simulator, so no-one need feel threatened by it, it's not suddenly going to revolutionise anything, it's a toy, and a really fun one at that.
Can't think of any more right now, so what does everyone else think ? Any tips (other than MW2 ? which I think I got my fill of first time round) ?

Mediocre year. I've got a few I play regularly, but there really isn't much that I am ecstatic about. I have a game rental by mail service and I am stuck with getting the marginal games because nothing really makes me want to get it. I'm forced to look forward to things like DLC for Grand Theft Auto. I've got the latest Dynasty Warriors in my game que in all it's button mashing mediocrity for christ's sake. Yeah there are a few gems like Batman, Borderlands, COD:2 and Forza 3, but as a whole, I'm finding it harder to get excited over this years releases.

Street Fighter 4's been the highlight so far I think! Just picked up New Super Mario Wii, not played it yet though.

Some good and some poor releases.
OFP2 was a massive let down, as was left 4 dead 2 (or left 4 dead 1.5 as i call it)
However surprisingly Call Of Duty MW2 was an amazing game despite the piss poor matchmaking.
I just got AC2 on PS3 and i haven't really put it down since i started playing, its everything AC1 should have been and more.
Combine that with NFS Shift which was fairly decent, Resi 5 which i enjoyed immensly, SF4 which was a gd addition to PC (seeing as fighters are rare as rocking horse s**t on PC) and Wolfenstien and i reckon the balance just gets tipped over to it being a gd year, gd but not great

i don't think it's been much of a year for games, unfortunately. a few decent outings, but nothing i'd describe as seminal.
that said, uncharted 2 looks fantastic.

Forza 3 is the bomb. Without a doubt the best racing game on the 360. I would have started a thread of it's own, but this is the only one I can get to.......

the only new game i've played this year is the new pro evo on the ps3 and to say it's disappointing would be an under-statement
the online mode is far superior to the last version though
gonna spend some christmas money i got on street fighter 4

Unless you are a big fan of the series and know all the combos already, it isn't worth the money. If you can pull off a hadouken without thinking about it, this game is for you, otherwise the learning curve is way, way too high.

What's the problem with the gaming area? Can only access this thread and nothing else?
Anyway, definitely a down year for games, although it's finishing strong. I haven't played Assassin's Creed 2 yet, but I'm enjoying Left 4 Dead 2. I know it's just the same game with new characters and a few more weapons, but I loved the first one so that's fine with me.
I'm excited about getting Borderlands and I was a big fan of Fallout. I'm also getting Dragon Age for Christmas so it could be a fairly flush year for RPGs. For everything else I'd say 2009 has been a drought.

A month later and still the same problem with the Games area I see!
I got Dead Space Extraction which was really good I thought, better than the original for all sorts of reasons in my opinion.
