Would you buy a soundcard secondhand?

I'm looking at the higher end models like the 828, 1010, etc, and would like to know if anyone has any experience buying this sort of gear secondhand. Is it better to buy new with the warranty because soundcards are often prone to malfunction, or are soundcards generally solid out of the box, good for life? Thanx.

a rule of mine is never buy anything for your studio second hand that's really expensive that isn't guaranteed. the 828 would fall into this category. it really is worth going that extra mile just for piece of mind i reckon.
