Bass Compression and EQ

When compressing and EQ'ing bass any suggestions for the best order to do it in? Should I EQ then compress, compress EQ and compress again etc. Same with kick should EQ and compress bass and kick separate and then place onto 1 track and compress them together?

To be honest, its all a matter of trial and error. But i usually eq the bass and the kicks seperately, then compress them. Then re-insert them and compress them together. Its important that you compress the kick and the bass together to get them to sit right. But you will probably find that you will change the eq'ing half way though the tune anyway!
