Another Monitor question...

Ok, i know there has been plenty of posts on monitors before, but i thought id need some more relavance to what im needing. Im curently thinking about getting the Alesis M1 actives, but is there anything else in this price range that might be worth considering.

Do you think its worth saving that little bit more and getting some makies, or even some of the cheaper genelec's? I know what a difference having decent monitors can have. I have used some Genelecs before, and they were the dogs danglies, but they are right out of my price range. I could probably stretch to 700 if i really had to?

Any idea's people? Any help is much aprieciated :scratch:

I know Event put out a cheaper version of the 20/20 called the TR8 which is roughly 450usd not sure how much that converts into pounds, but you may want to check those out.

I got myself a pair of those after having read good reviews in big german
music prod. magazines and i must say they're great. :love: :love: :love: The Bass goes down real low. they are very heavy (16kg each) . tapco was the name of greg mackie's first company, btw :cool:

cheapest place I found for the M1s at £249

id skip those m1's they sound like shit compared to other monitors in the price range, a really cheap hollow sound..

as ive said a heap of times dont buy tapco or behringer. they are made with really crappy cheap components & my friend at digital village says they are the things that get sent back broken the most. Like a set a day or somthing. Everyone i know who has owned the behringers has had them die, same goes for M-audios actually..

Id look at passive K-roks or fostex PM-1's or 2's they are certainly a class above those others and they can kick out some noise.

£500+ its gotta be mackie, adam or genelec

iv'e been thinking about the fostex range for some time, i heard a set the other day and they are awesome, even to my untrained ear.
But then again, the mackies are still better, but out of my price range

Adam ANF-10 only but goooooood reviews (considering the price range), they're passive though!

£675 seems a decent price for the hr624's, as for genelics, i hate them, they just sound odd to me

Hmm, which genelecs have you used? A studio ive used had these in - http://www.fullcompass.com/Products/...826/index.html and i thought they were totally awsome. Every tinyest detail in the mix could be heard in crystal clear clarity. Shame i havent got £2000 to spend on them tho. Is it the new 800 series that you have used?? Does anyone know if there are any shops in the uk where i can test out monitors monitors before i buy???

it was the 1029a's, yes they sounded clear, but there was something about the sound i didnt like, i dont know what it was, but there was just a nagging feeling i wouldnt like to work with them for long periods of time
