Depends how much cash you want to throw at it.
I find I get on perfectly well with Pioneer CDJ-100's (£250 new, less 2nd hand) for basic beatmatching duties. Some people prefer to have 500's, 800's or 1000's, which give you stuff like looping, ability to scratch, storing cuepoints etc.
These can cost you anything up to £800 though.
technics ........yum yum ;)
pioneer ..........yum yum ;)
denon..............yumyum ;)
ive only used the cdj 800's but there wicked, only takes a couple of mixes to get used to the way they work an there solid as ****
I use cdj100's.
Perfectly adequate if you're just beatmatchin.
Would definatly reckoment Pioeneer, especially if you play out, as they're becoming pretty much industry standard, and all work the same way pretyt much.
a mate of mine has got a denon s5000. pretty nice but i find it a bit too sensetive and cant get on with it. he can use it fine but wished he had got the technics instead http://pages.infinit.net/bluefire/Images/music.gif
Technics are very good i'd probably go for that, considering it's a closer feeling 2 playing vinyl... otherwise i'd go for the Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK2, the 800's are very good aswell but the weel feels a bit to loose 4 my taste...
If u ain't on a rush u can always wait for some news on the Pioneer CDJ range ;) (it's something close 2 the 800's!! ;) )... can't say more, I haven't tryed yet but it's something I kinda know ;)

Numark CDX as good as or better than the technics in my opinion, and you can strap a bit of vinyl to the platter if you want.
