external hd usb-firewire

hi there. i recently got a carillon external hd. ive found it quite unstable on the usb but i hav got a hub connected with 2 dongles 1 for logic 1 for mach five & the carillon. i tried it on the firewire & it was much more stable but when i turnt it off it fecking wiped. when i turnt it back on it was clear like nothing onit. when i had about 20 sample packs on there and a few tunes i had started. on the usb it didnt wipe its self but fecking is on the firewire. anyone know anything
