Question about firewire interface

Would this take the strain off the CPU in my iBook G4 like a standard firewire audio unit? Or does it not help at all? If it doesnt then what would I need to do that? DSP unit? This may seem like a bonehead question but I'm a complete muppet when it comes to hardware.

no it wont take any strain off your cpu, like you say, to do that, you would need a soundcard with dsp effects or something similar
