Loop for critical commentary

it's hard to tell much from a small loop, but to my untrained ears it sounds nicely eq'ed with a good swing to it

Sounds decent enough to me , if this is for Loop collection i wouldn't be too worried about a final sheen that you would be after for a normal finished track, loops are not much use after having the dynamics compressed etc to get that nice final finished sound better to concentrate on getting a good idea down with decent ish balance on the mix and let the end user add whatever compression etc they need.

indeed this is the case, im not going to master them in anyway other than basic topping, tailing, normalising and checking the phase.
