This Thursday sees one of the biggest DJs and producers over the past five years, Ricardo Villalobos, make his Irish debut at Electric City with a very special 3 hour set (minimal by his standards!). His legendary Djing sets have gained him a massive following with their deep ricocheting sound and including many of his own productions. Ricardo has also put out some of the most acclaimed releases over the past few years with his 'Alcahofa' and 'Thé Au Harem D'Archimède' releases getting album of the year plaudits across the globe. Ricardo Villalobos is one of the most versatile and most imaginative producers and DJs of the electronic music scene. This will be one of those special Electric City nights where you'll have the chance to get up close and personal with one of the stars of electronic music.

Since the early '90s, Ricardo Villalobos has been building an impressive discography of 12" releases on respected dance labels like Playhouse and Perlon. In his youth, the Chilean-born producer/DJ moved with his family to Germany in order to avoid the military dictatorship of Pinochet, and he eventually fell in with the country's fertile house community. In addition to his own solo material, he has recorded with fellow expatriate Dandy Jack as Ric y Martin and with Luciano as Sense Club; additionally, he has taken part in Markus Nikolai's Hombre Ojo project. Two excellent mixes -- 2002's Love Family Trax and 2003's Taka Taka on Cocoon -- have been released, but the apex of his career appears to be Alcachofa, a 2003 full-length released on Playhouse. A second full-length, Thé Au Harem D'Archimède, arrived on Perlon in 2004.

From 1995 to 1998 he was resident DJ in The Box in Frankfurt, and in 1999 Ricardo made the big jump to become the resident for Cocoon in the Amnesia on Ibiza. One year later he moved to Berlin, in order to work in the special atmosphere of the city. Since then he has hooked up with Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath and the minimal sound has exploded since this time. His sets both alone and alongside Richie hawtin have caught the imagination of dancefloors across the world and we're super sure this is going to be another one of those occasions. After Richie played the club, Ricardo heard so many great things that he wanted to come over and play in the special EC atmosphere. Support on the night comes from EC FM man, Dan Power. Mister Power is one of the deepest DJs around and his slick slow-driving DJ style is going to lead just perfectly into Ricky's set. Dan can be heard every Sunday evening between 9- 11 on www.powerfm.org

Next weekend you can catch EC residents in Dublin & Galway. First up on Friday sees Simon Conway ride into the west for his eagerly anticipated return to Galway's legendary 110th Street. Armed with a saddle full of Italo Disco & Chicago Jams. This will be Simon's 3rd time to play at one of the country's finest nights. Then on Sunday at the Vaults you can catch Giles Armstrong warming up for Sunil Sharpe who in turn will be warming up for Slick German Techno producer Alexander Kowalski at Collective Music Mayfest. This line up also includes Renaissance man Dave Spunk and it's already shaping up to be of the best nights in Dublin this Bank Holiday weekend........after Ricky Villa of course!
