Oh yes....its another Ableton question

Right peeps. I'm thinking about buying the Audio Kontrol 1 for my laptop http://www.soundware.co.uk/sc/produc...%20Kontrol%201

My question is this. How would I monitor using it with Live. For example if I wanted to cue up a track without affecting the front of house, would this soundcard be able to do this. From what I have read, it does offer source switching but how would I go about setting this up in Live?

My thoughts are that I would have multiple tracks setup in Live with half sent to the first two mono outputs and the other half sent to the other two and whilst DJ'ing/Performing I would just go from one output to the other using the headphone source switch to change whats in my headphones.

Am I on the right track, would this setup be easy to connect to a PA system because effectively there would be four mono outs? Is there a better way to do what I'm on about? Am I making any sense? etc....Advice please peeps!!!

Set up one pair as your master out, the other as your cue and then do the mixing all in Ableton.

Alternatively, use both outs as seperate channels on a Mixer and then you can go nuts with the crossfader.

You won't need to cue stuff up anyway - Ableton will beatmatch for you.

Ok cool, I'm just messing about with routing at the moment on my desktop machine and have got two outputs setup so I can monitor tracks thru my headphones without affecting other tracks that are playing thru the speakers but Live doesnt seem to like monitoring more than one track at a time. Any ideas?

rather than spend 180 quid on one device with a bloody stupid knob on the top of it, better go with more or just get the tapco and save up for a decent control surface.

Yeah thats pretty cool. Only problem is my Laptop only has a tiny 1394 port. I really was aiming for a USB card to be honest.

Is it possible to use more than one control surface at the same time in Live?

For example, I could use my Oxygen 8 to trigger loops and control track volume etc, and then have another control surface (like the M-Audio one above) to be used exclusively for mixing between tracks. Anyone tried this?

the only limit would be the amount of usb ports / midi ports in your setup

There are two different modes...

One where the mixer works like a traditional mixing deck (solo and mute) and another where it works like a DJ mixer (cue).

You want the second one.

I think it's a toggle on the master strip.

That shouldn't make any difference.

The only limitation of the smaller port is that it can't supply power to the device, but you probably don't want to be putting that kind of strain on your laptop anyway.

Yep.

I've had an Ecler Nuo DJ mixer and a Behringer controller both controlling Live at the same time with no problems.
