compressors with auto gate

hello

quick question

i have my kick and a bunch of hi hats grouped together (in cubase) on the group i have my compressor(VST DYNAMICS) and my reverb.


on teh compressor i have it set to a nice pump..and i have been playing around with the auto gate mostly the TRIGGER FREQUENCY RANGE ...it goes from 20 to 10k ...i play with threshold too of course and hold

anyone have any good advice on how to get better results..when i set the TRIGGER FREQ range to around 20-100 it gets the kick pumping nice ..which makes sense to me..but is it ok to have the kick and hit hats all grouped together then use this effect or should i have one on the kick and one on the hit hats..each with different trigger freq range..i mainly ask cuz i think it can be ok if they are grouped together then have this effect going..,.just curious on every1s thoughts and maybe advice to get it better.,..thanks
