At the moment there seems to be a hell of alot of dj's playing hardstyle or claiming to be hardstyle dj's, is the uk scene big enough for this amount of dj's or will it just overkill the sound?? :eh:

tbh m8 i dunno if its just round here, but mainly at the events i here hard trance & some techno & very little hardstyle. unless of course mzone is playing. so i reckon theres still a big opening for djs, although many promoters are quite snobby and look down upon the genre.Quote:

I find that strange as everywhere you look its hardstyle and the amount of hardstyle demo's i get is absolutely ***king crazy. Dont get me wrong I LOVE HARDSTYLE but can all the hardstyle dj's in the uk get a break?
i think its definitely getting harder to get a break, as im just finding out  thats why with my demos i try to include hard trance and hardstyle to show promoters i can play a more diverse style. I wish i was into other genres as well so it could be even broader. Btw theres a demo headed your way addi ;) :lol:Quote:

yeah thats what i mean yosh mate, as you say you play hard trance/hardstyle but there are loads of up & coming and established dj's all playing hardstyle. To me many events dont cater for hardstyle from the start of the night to the finish and usually the peak set caters for hardstyle. so how can you fit x amount of dj's into that slot?? and how many events cater for the influx of hardstyle dj's?

that all came out very fast so i dunno if it makes sense
i don't care if anyone is hardstyle, hard trance or whatever. a good dj is a good dj. too many ppl are not getting the break they deserve because of genre classification. **** em. :dontevengothere:
yeah i understand so what we have is
Not enuff events playing hardstyle
No events giving up&coming hardstyle dj's the chance
=Too many dj's playing hardstyle & not gotting the chance to play out anywhere!! :eh:
to be honest, all of the breaks i've had with playing out have been through knowing people and just being in the right place at the right time.
way it's always going to be i feel.
its not just genre classification though, its more that clubs dont put djs that play hard on early, so up and coming djs who do play hard never get a shot. not just hardstyle djsQuote:

there's too many dj's full stop...not just too many dj's playing hardstyle
in a way though i suppose a dj is limiting his own opportunities by sticking to one genre. but still, why should it be harder for a dj to succeed because he plays hardstyle?Quote:

I run nights with guests & residents but i also have nights where its just up & coming dj's and two residents to give new blood a chance and let the ressies get the opportunity of a peak time slot! but not many ppl do that :eh:
which is really unfortunate. i mean, i was lucky because dave (subsonic) has the same approach as you. otherwise i still wouldnt have had a single dj setQuote:

so wots the solution? by the sounds of things i may as well quit now :lol:Quote:

seriously what stops the evolution of a dj?
dj learns to play in bedroom
dj plays in front of mates
dj gets the chance to play at a small venue a few times (after 1st time it shuts down)
dj plays at more venues & bigger venues (no venues/not as much)
sadly the local authorities in most districts dont want venues playing hard dance as its associated to the drug culture! So less & less venues want to be up against the councils/police.
lol i sound all doom & gloom by f*ck
but really where does it leave us???
about the only thing you can do is either start your own night, or start producing, and get noticed that way.
it's a pain in the ass but it's the way it is. entering dj comps is a good way to get noticed as well
thats a stupid attitude by the authorities though! if everyone was drugged up instead of pissed then there wouldnt be anywhere near as much trouble @ the weekend. im not glorifying drugs, but its sad that they promote alcohol and scorn(if thats the right word) drugs for which the only reason is the legality of them.Quote:

exactly. every dj cant play totally different coz everyones limited by their chosen genres. the only way i can see is for djs to get so good at mixing that its stupid, like every mix inch perfect every time which is near impossible. although i think its better a dj is picked for his skills, not for the music he plays as long as it fits with the theme of the nite. how can someone like me stand out that far from the rest?Quote:

tis a hard question to answer, good dj's just stand out
i know, i mean, how big an element in this is luck? tbh a lot of djs i see live dont mix especially well or distictively but then again, is that due to lazyness now that their known?Quote:

i think its about finding your own unique style which is very difficult in a field that there are so many dj's trying to break through.
Mark is an excellent dj and a thorough crowd entertainer.
Mzone just does his own thing and rocks big time, imho.
Jaym, well in my eyes he's a talented dj but he has a style which i cant cant describe & he always gets them up for it!!
id like to think i have my own unique style, but its not for me to judge
lol i look forward to hearing your mix mate, ive enjoyed the others a great deal!!!
...maybe because most of it is fu*king shite?Quote:

At the end of day it doesn't matter how many there are some are playing it and are utter pants. I'm going to name names, but there are few out there. Only getting bookings because they 'bring a bus'. Pah!!! Thats the type of DJs that we could do without in the scene.
Sorry meant to add that promoters sinking to those levels and putting that before the quality of djs they book >> :nono:
but as a promoter myself i know the kind of dj's you are describing but sometimes a promoter needs dj's like that to get the numbers they require to break even!! then again other dj's run nights so they can do swap deals to get a break in an other area!!Quote:

My personal point of view is, that as a promoter you need to "hedge your bets" progress the night through from Trance and Hard Trance through to Hardstyle and Techno, the variety of DJs and styles through the night means that you will get a better attendance than if you stuck with just the one genre (ie Hardstyle) which is pidgeonholing the night a bit.... If the UK Dance Scene was a little more like Holland then we might get some Huge Hardstyle events but UK clubbers associate Hard Music with getting off their Box instead of just chilling out with a few beers whilst listening to some quality Hardstyle tunes/DJs
I think he did hit the nail on the head there for certain.
There are loads of DJs and promoters out there with not just no talent, but no love or passion for what they do. They are in it primarily for the recgonition, money or to 'make friends' (Yes I do know a few). And of course a lot with very brown tongues ;)
but half the time when you are lucky to get a break, the previso for coming back is if you do 'bring a bus' the first time roundQuote:
