been from yorkshire i was into all that waffle when i was a youth but not anymore although dont mind hearing it ocassionally but what makes me laugh is when a lot of people on here slate yorkshire mc's say they're shite and they ruin every set tell you how they dont like mc's but then go on and big up really poor southern mc's it all comes down to the north/south divide imo well more like yorkshire/rest of country theres only really 3 southern mc's i like listening to and by the way they dont always no when to shut the fuk up but im not been biased as i only like about as many mc's from or that mc reguarly in the yorkshire events as i do in the south im just tryin to say there not all that bad especially space and peta pan there both minimal although space does go off on one at times but he doesnt get carried away like he used to lol has more a style of ribbz now then say natz and peta pan is imo the perfect example of how an mc should mc
The proof is that they very rarely get bookings outside the Yorkshire area. I just dont get the hype, i was at Uprising in Sheffield last month, and it totally ruined my night! Hardly anyone cared about the music getting played, its was all about who was mc'ing?!?!
I see videos on Youtube that are titled Natz & Marcus with M-Zone?!?! I mean come on, the mc is only there to hype the crowd every now and again, but these guys take the piss. At Uprising the sound system was set up with the sole purpose of the mc's.
I didnt think anything could ruin an M-Zone old skool set, but having Natz & Marcus b2b alongside him did it for me and i left after 10mins. And how ANYONE can understand what those 2 guys say is beyond me!!!
Anyhoo, rant over. And yeah Space is good, he mc'd for me at the warehouse. Like him.
These mcs dont know when to shut up and ruin many a set
yeah you have got a point most do get carried away tryin to be ice cube and that i heard many a set ruined by all the jibba jabba they talk ive never understood mc marcus especially just sounds like a nutcase killer whos just escaped from the asylum then got pumped on high grade amphetamine before goin on a bashin spree lol it isnt very professional but like i said theres a few that are ok like karl space and peta pan
by the way ally did you remember to stik a 10oz gold belcher chain to uppy to blend in lol all the craze round there ya no
Yea I despise those MCs, they are absolutely awful. Singing rap and drum & bass tunes over M-Zone sets!! If they want to sing that shite why dont they just MC to D&B? Is Marcus the one with the really croaky voice? One of the worst noises Ive ever heard.
I hope to god they arent MCing in the trance room at Pleasuredome 10th October!!!!
i dont think anyones mc'ing in m zones room mate its mc free
excellent!!! although I wouldnt have minded Ribbz being in there..
Yeah it dont say any mc's on the flyer but you know the sound engineer will plug a mic in & all the shit hardcore mc's who cant get on coz mc storm is on will end up in the hard trance room.I can see it now all lining up waiting for the mic so they can claim their a good mc when they get the pack. Surly someone muct of told them they are s**t.
it used to propa do my headin all those wack M.Cs when i was younger especially oddessy , double zero , jester , & "the yorkshire cru"... i didnt mind peta pan , storm , charlie b ! infact i had some good tapes with them on ... natz well hes just a funny ol bugger still saying the rhymes of the past today like "hoooowwwaaaa huuuuwwwaaaa ... ring ding diiing ding early in the mornin "
now i find that funny .... but as iv got older i learned to "selectivly" listen to sets and turn off those annoying tw@ts coz at the end of the day as long as people like them they will get bookings the same applies to the DJs that cant mix there "wang-cars" aswell ... also i feel for the last 15 years the scene has been "lockdown" not much room for new talent ... maybe thats why is not as big as the 90s when u had plenty of big promoters doin raves ?? MCs ribbz&sharkey are awesome !!! & mark-e.g - m-zone adventurous DJs they way it should be - unlike those t0ssers judge jules & tiesto wiv thair basic mixing............ .........
man parris was sh1t aswell :-D
loved the old dave angel sets wiv MC ribbz awesome
loved the old dave angel sets wiv MC ribbz awesome !! :-D
You either appreciate or hate MC'ing - its the Marmite effect!
They need five main components:
A Great Voice
Decent Lyrics
A Sense of Rhythm
Ability to Hype the Crowd
Be Entertaining
Not sure why everyone is give Natz such a hard time, I like his style - what a great guy, think he's 55 now, got 6 grandkids and still going to raves and giving 110%, he's been there from the start and is owed much respect. He's a genuine guy with a real passion for what he does and isnt up his own arse like a lot of MC's.
The Uprising MC's are a rare breed - JD Walker, Marcus, Domer, ELL and Natz all really compliment the music. I loved going to the Adelphi as you got awesome DJ's and awesome MC's, but its gotta be your cuppa, otherwise dont bother. Topgrooves set at Uprising from 18-01-97 is one of my all time favs, think I know all the MC'ing off by heart (although you sound like a twat singing along at home!)
The "DJ/MC Motivator" Im not so keen on, kinda ruined Fergus Pleasuredome 5th Birthday set for me :( and its bloody awesome!
Ribbz - NO MORE SHOUT OUTS! - DANCE IF YOU'RE HAVIN A GOOD TIME! When you've been MC'ing since before Jesus was born, guess its hard to come up with new lyrics! ;O) His minimalist approach has always made him the music lovers favorite. Plus he loves to see people getting into the tunes - I love him on the M-Zone Classics Finale Hardcore Weekender 2 as he tries to get a load of knackered old ravers dancing with minimalist moves - check it out if you've not heard it!
Sharkey - well what can I say, other than there are very few MC's I'd search out sets to listen to, irrespective of who the DJ is! I think we used to listen to Steam and Tomorrows World tapes solely in the hope that Sharkey would lose the plot completed and start talking complete bollocks! Legendary!
Charlie B - (Didn't he once smack Sharkey?)the lesser-spotted Charlie B used to wander about a fair bit at the Dome with a can of Red Stripe and a fag on, but I do like him as an MC, heard him do some D&B sets too and he was pretty good. Always good when teamed up with Storm in the old days!
Storm - hats off to him, think he'll have made the most money out of the industry by now! His early attempts at voice scratchin were pretty awful though and he can be a bit screetchy, but he gets everyone worked up so fair play, he's put some serious hours in over the years.
Easy & Squidgy B, both part of the staple diet for techno lovers, nuff said.
Robbie Dee - a legend in his own time.
Marley - Ramos' sidekick, but a good solid hardcore MC, Ramos and Marley were alway reliable for a cracking set.
Some of the worst MC's I've heard were at Diehard, shocking! Can't believe they actually put their resident MC's on the flyers! Sounded like they were retarded!
Finally I can't believe no-ones commented on good 'ol Livelee.... (he's certainly unique bless him!) Can't say he doesnt hype the crowd which is what MC's are for! Met him in Nov at the Pleasuredome, really nice guy, meant to be hanging up his mic now so he can promote an agency he's started??
Anyway, I can't see MC's disappearing, but I wonder if promoters will put on, non-Mc'd nights?? Might be a niche??
MC Motivator - possibly the worst MC I have ever heard...
Are MC Junkie & Frosite still about?
havent heard of them two for ages!!! used to dig frosty...quality on m-zone roadblock tour.
mattpone as for mc natz, he definitely does not have any of the 5 points that u mentioned to be a good mc....fair do's he might have been going since the early 90s and for that he does deserve respect but it doesnt mean hes any good on the mic. What he says is just mindless dribble, ripping lyrics off rap tunes, cant see how that hypes a crowd...same goes for all them uprising, dizstruxshon mc's.
i read on the ush forums that people around that area used to go into this record shop and ask for tapes that had natz on.....didnt care less about the dj or the music. Whay kind of sh*t is that?
oh yea, the amount of kenny sharp sets i have ruined by some gruff bastard giving it the ba to the b to the badda badda doo daa doo over the top. shame because the tunes above him are slamming. dnb mc... ot but dont get me started. ra ra ra remix!
