definatly changing.
tribal seems to be comin back in a more minimal form...oxia, beyer, format b, dubfire....enjoying that fer sure.
good ol' skoog seems to be at the top of his game again with his agaric stuff.
i cant get enough of henrys mutate to survive ep....
lovin the ballsy minimal Len Faki, zahn, rohr, eidolon, paco etc are puttin out.
Chris Liebing and his lable CLR, bau, ortin cam, dsp, ant, wetworks are keepin it real with the harder stuff.
just as much bad music as ever of course, but im finding some good new sounds with these guys and alot of others
i for one am stoked to see what 2008 is bringin. 07 was better than 06 in my opinion....
That track is called 'Callas' on Theory 12.2 from 2002.
On the topic of whether it's been a good year or a bad year - it's been pretty good for me. The Locked parties have been going well and we've seen a lot of new faces at the club over the year. I've managed to find plenty of good records and I'm still buying vinyl, as well as digital releases.
There have also been a other nights up north that have been putting on good techno nights, so I'm cautiously optimistic for 2008.
I think its been a good year there is so much quality out there but not from the usual suspects so its harder to find but well worth it!
On a personal note am loving being resident at the techno experiment, things are going great and the parties have been rammed which such a good crowd. So thanks to all my lot for their support and to all the North Wales crew as well who are always having it at the front with my lot ha ha.
YES!
That's the one!
Now if I could only find an mp3 of it!
hey ANX man thanks for the shout man, I'm working harder than ever to get Clandestine off the ground, and on VINYL, I wont fail!
Me and Brad are cooking up some nastyness for Zeitgeist, especially with his departure for Europa coming soon, we have some sassy mcfilthy burgers to throw at people soon. 2007 was a great year for techno in the sense that people kept it true to what they liked, with the market so concentrated on a few thousand people now it's like you have no choice but to keep it true to what you write. Curveballs are cool for some who have the room to move, but being yourself and true to your trademarks and what you do well will be what's poppin' for 2008 I believe.
i'll tell ya something tho
i think i've had more than enough electro house for one year
Not from me im afriad.
Keep your eye on the ball gentlemen. The more popular a genre is the more its likely to produce some excellent production skills (in a ratio to crap though as well)
Ive heard some genuinley superb electro-house type music (still hate th term though lol ) A lot of it borders on techno as well... of the wonky variety.
Tsk tsk - Techno is a journey not a destination.
I'm just talking about all of the crap which sounds like they tried to copey Benny Benassi...
I aint lagging on the production value...cause surely most of it is well made. However it isn't just about being technically sound...it's about being forward thinking...and as you said...taking that journey...or putting people onto it.
I really dont hear that in most elektro house. But in no way was I laggin on their studios skills. I give respect where it's due...but in creativity...that my friend we might disagree on.
Then we'll have to agree to disagree on the creativity. You really have to listen to more. Besides, i agree on the benny bennasi type crap. A search on soulseek or what not reveals a silly amount of people have the bennasi crap on their HDs...
My friend is a house DJ in slovenia and has a stupid stupid amount of tracks and CDs of the genre we are talking about, its the HOUSE description thats the thing to concentrate on. House music continues to evolve thankfully as there are always lessons to be learnt for the rest of us. Techno and House? Match made in heaven IMO. Be those lessons bad or good, it matters not luke.
i love benny benassi satisfaction
sound of benny benassi is so last year anyway...
put some Switch or Jesse Rose or The Crookers in the player! fidget house will be on fire in 2008. too!
really loved 'Counterparts' stuff from this year.....excellent producers and there live PA's are outstanding.
Oh dont be a daft lad! of course you like house music! whats not to like ;)
I was saying that to dismiss electro house out of hand is dangerous as it has a hard commercial effect on house as a whole.
Sheeesh! you not into house, brad! Id be offended if you belived i didnt know you loved that sure ;)
Happy new year to you and your kids!
A good year I think. More diversity amongst all varieties of techno and related genres= more opportunities to include different sounds, grooves, and varied energy levels in to a cohesive dj set.
Lots of selection to choose from in the vinyl market, although admittedly lots of crap to sort through.
Some well established artists trying different sounds, but still keeping it real with their own flavor (for example beyer, dubfire, oxia, chris liebing, lekebusch).
And for me a transplant to yet another un-heralded outpost of the edm world. Moved from Portland Oregon USA to Vina Del Mar Chile where I have re-discovered the true value of music as a universal language. Despite language barriers, economics (a vinyl record here costs 18 US dollars), and a non edm savy public dj’s are still working hard to develop their own grooves and keep the music alive and the public dancing.
back ot, I gotta say that this last year has been more of an eye opener to me than the last four or five years put together, things (thank god) seem to be moving forward again, which has gotta be a good thing all in all:)
last year? more like 4 years ago. shit is def played.
switch and them were already on fire in 2007. he got named artist of the year in xlr8r for all his remix work as switch and production work for the likes of M.I.A.
i think he is moving to los angeles so expect even more switchy remixes of pop artists....turning radio BS into weird playable club tracks. not a bad thing.
because of this i do see him becoming even more popular in 2008...as well as his collegues.
yeah, it was 2005 or 2006 when he did that Essential Mix lots of people were talking about. amount of remixes he's been putting out recently is mad. same as speaker junk, herve, already mentioned italian duo crookers... jesse rose remix of armand van helden's "playmate" was pronounced as one of the biggest club tracks of the year by beatportal etc.
i really started to enjoy that sound more and more in 2007. I went berserk when heard switch switch remix of aquilera and diddy on a party about a year ago, while most of the people around me just frown hehe
I just wish more djs is into it, instead of staying on the safe road with sound a la david guetta and fedde le grand....
Seems to me the minimal stranglehold has eased up somewhat and people are looking for more substance again in their dance music. I predicted to friends when Tresor came back as a club, techno itself would make a comeback and it looks like it's happening.
I think you have hit the nail on the head there Alan as some people I know & spoke to have said they were getting bored of minimal & wanting hear real Techno for change instead of the so called Minimal cannon fodder that is getting released these days. As I say Techno is a leader not a follower but it's a shame some Techno artists have jumped on to the minimal band waggon coz it's the next big thing. Techno is going to be fighting back as it's a Fighter!
