I don't personally like it when people pledge allegiance to a particular genre and then stick to it and only it no matter what. I nearly fell into it myself - you get known for a style you play, then you feel you have to stick with it even when it starts to stale. You can end up getting typecast, and the genre will bring you down with it.
Just play whatever you like and don't really worry too much about what it is exactly. Music changes very fast, so you need to move with it and go where your ears tell you.
Of course if you still love the genre as much as ever then stick with it. Unnecessary change just for fashion or appearance is perhaps an even worse scenario to fall in.
