i get that point ofcourse :) but making techno part of a constant wave of fads and trendy genres that keeps changing throughout and around the more mainstream of dance music in my opinion isnt going to keep the scene alive. It kills scenes if anything.
I know hard house and the surrounding music 'artists' have been dabbling in techno for a while now but dabbling and raping are to different things. The more techno features in such jokes as the dj mag top 100 the more people are gonna want to cash in. Thus in the long run saturating the market with crap (not just music either).
This may be a pesimistic point, but i really do think its a valid point. Techno has been and is growing stronger very well on its own imo and doesnt need this kind of publicity.
Please dont label me as a narrow minded purist either because im really not in any way :)
you have actually got a very fare point, but i also think i have, unfortunatly as soon a money disapears from techno so will alot of artists belive me, and it isnt going strength to strength either, its dropping dramatically.

Not hating on you mate, but this is the top 100 djs as voted for people who read djmag.
Hands up here who reads dj mag.
Hands up who cares what dj mag readers think.
Techno is big, ugly and global enough not to need to rely upon dance magazines.
Dance music mags are for faddy drop ins who are desperate to learn whats cool, and will believe anything thats in print.
Awards like this are a pile of shit.
Techno is an attitude, not everyone will get it. That they don't doesn't degrade techno in the slightest.
this is just it though, how on earth can you say techno is growing? you have to trust me on this i guess it isnt growing its shrinking at an alarming rate, there is a load of pap out there thats why we have to reconise the good, to ween out the bad, to elaborate on agent orange, first time is was in ny state on tour, there where about 4-5000 ravers at this gig, all the shops and artists in nyc where doing incredably well, last feb, i played and the promoter was stoked cause 60 people came through the door, that saturday another promoter was even happier because 100 people turned up, now i now i have opened up a can of worms for you guys to "well your shit rowland what do you expect" and you have the right to think that, but... NONE of the techno shops are open now, not even sonic groove home of frankie bone adam x and heather hart **** off players internationally of techno.
orange is talking sense hereQuote:

yeah, but this is specifically about the poll opening awareness to people about techno, which doesnt really make a difference at all seeing how these publications contain articles about techno, interviews with techno artists, reviews of techno records every month anyway... i mean, i read a magazine the other week i cant remember it was dj mag or idj one of those and it had an "inside the studio" section with Cristian Vogel, 2 page spread lots of info, pics, interview etc, so if its a regular reader and they havent picked up anything in the mag about techno yet then 5 or 6 techno placings in a poll thats published once a year really isnt going to make much difference.... i can see the point behind backing these polls, i just genuinely believe they have no effect upon the scene as a result, i wish they did, really, but alasQuote:
