yep, less expensive and very phat indeed is the akai mfc42
sherman is top draw too though..
akai is amazing, sherman is even more amazing
thanks, i'll check it out.
The Electrix FilterFactory is apparently pretty decent. I have the FilterQueen, which is the younger sister to the Filterfactory - less knobs, no MIDI. Not as cool. With MIDI and sync'd LFOs, I think I would use this more. Sometimes you can find them cheaply.
Yes, they're analogue.
its decent but not phat like the akai & sherman
ive got the electrix eq killer.. cost me £60 but i would spend hundreds to get another.. amazing sounding box..
Word. Would trade my FilterQueen for a second EQKiller without thinking twice.Quote:

i bought the sherman second hand of the old chris mccormatron
and i have to say, it's definitely got it's own sound.
which is a good thing in my book amoungst all this computer plugin tomfoolery.
:)
The Mutronics Mutator is a bit of an animal but its only low pass and is a bit pricey now i belive.
I wish the sherman was stereo I can tell you that ... it'd get loads more use ...
Mmmm, Sherman Quad Modular Filter.

*droooooool*. Only 95 of these were made.
oh my god look at that!
yeah the akai is good as its got independent stereo and mono filters..
they each have thier own inputs but the only trouble is they share a stereo output..
there was one of those akai mfc42 down me local cash convertor the other week for £149. if only i had some money
the mutator looks interesting, but so far i'm still leaning towards the sherman. it will be a few months before i can buy any new kit anyway, so i might as well start saving for the one that makes the sound i want.
i guess in the meantime i can experiment using the nord modular. it's filters aren't the greatest sounding, but it does have envelope followers, and i want to try the thing where you modulate the cutoff frequency of one sound using an envelope follower on another.
hahaha, nice avatar JC
woah! where does one start on that??.. i want a go!Quote:

yeah i know but any tips on how would you make it happen?
i'm about to give it a try. if i can come up with something that doesn't suck i'll post it.
well i put something pretty basic together in the nord modular, and ended up with hours of fun tweaking it. i'm on at 15% patch load so i have lots of room.
all i did was run a synth into the R audio in on the NM, and a drum track into the L audio in. the synth is then sent through a multi-mode filter and out the main outs. the drum track is fed to two envelope followers, one of which controls the cutoff of the synth's filter, the other controls the resonance.
i played a static loop on the synth, and as i faded a drum track in, the synth went crazy, just as hoped. still needs work, but this will definitely keep me entertained for a while. :)
wish i'd thought of this sooner...
i read on another forum the mfc 42 lacks character.
ive had a lot of gear over the years and out of every peice of gear to come out in the last few years one thing that most definitly has character is the mfc..
Sweeeet cuz ive been lookin at gettin one but when i read the 'lack of character' thread it got my mind thinkin. Comments like yours put back the smile on me face :)Quote:
