has been a while since i posted anything, so here's one i did at the end of July.....

Thanks for this CD Chaz and it was an absolute Blinder! As in the first Demo, i expected some nice Beat Juggling and i wasn't dissapointed.
Beat Juggling added that extra dimension to the CD and was really enjoyable to listen. Mixing was tight throughout the CD, and the Tune Selection was spot-on. Structured correctly.

Liked the way in some of the mixes you brought them in early and would bring them back out, keeping the listener alert.
Spot on with the tricks and all that.

however, to ensure i keep true to the sound and style i've developed, i will only play on Vestax (and not just cos they go faster, cos i cant fukin stand to mix on technics)
the few club bookings i've had, i've been able to bring mine along and swap decks over, i've even got a custom made technics deck cover box (it's a 3 sided box that sits directly over a technic basicly).....
if the club cant accomodate my needs, i dont play there...havent lost a booking yet, just cos they have technics, but i'm sure that time will come soon enough and well, that's just hard luck for the promotor really, not me, imo.

i really dont want to get into the whole Vestax vs Technics thing (yawn!)
i dont think i would turn a gig down, but i would make the person booking me very very very aware of the fact i dont like to play on technics and would prefer to bring my own Vestax along... if they say that's not possible, then yes, i really would think twice about playing it....it's not rediculous mate, it's about being able to play the way I play, something which is generaly different to most other DJs and thus my unique selling point....
lugging the decks about hasnt been a problem so far, fortionately i have a nice big car to drive them, tunes, myself and 4 other ppl to every gig i've played....
so, wot about all the ppl who only play off CD decks? i bet 9 times out of 10 they have to bring their own equipment along....
like i said, when ppl book me, i explain the situation... hasnt been a problem so far and really, i dont expect it be, as Vestax will soon be the industry standard ;)

no, vestax will NEVER be industry standard mate. dont kid urself.
and most clubs have CD decks. ive never once seen a club that has Vestax.
and when u get a fone call about a gig, do u no feel a bit silly telling them ur only doing it if u get 2 bring ur own decks along, because u can only mix on Vestax??

on the note of asking a promoter if you can use your own vestax decks most if not all would possibly tell you F**k off in politer words as it would mean too much hassle for the sound engineer!! you often get asked by big name dj's about the mixers, and a request for djm or A+H ones or to have a cdj onsite but never vestax decks!! :nono:

mate, about vestax being industry standard ... ya missed the ;)

believe me, playing off technics is a thought that is in my head daily, i can play on them with a bit of practice the day before ... but i just hate the fact they go so slow ....
when hard trance slowed down from 150-155 to 140ish , we just couldnt get the speed back with only technics - we likes that bouncy 155-160 bpm you used to get, but ya couldnt get it with the hard trance of 2000 using techincs, it was close, but not quite there....then someone showed us the vestax and we've never looked back - i'll get to +20 odd at parties :twisted: trance and acid at +14 is a beauty, gives it a kick up the arse!

so, a possible way round it would be to get final scratch and record all my vinyl at +8 and then we're sorted....most clubs can hook up a final scratch i would assume? (if they can do that, they can do vestax :roll: )

ppl who have listend to my mixes have all enjoyed the extra speed (check out the posts over at www.screamer-hardstyle.com), that's my sound, my style, that's supposedly what sets me apart from the rest .. i HAVE to use a piece of equipment to let me produce that sound that isnt the norm - the kind of ppl currently booking me at the moment, understand that those are my needs to create that sound - they are booking me for that, so if they want that, they have to be able to let me bring me decks or provide some...
if a promotor cant/wont do that, then why should i alter my playing style and sound that's not me.... i wont like how i'm playing and thus wont enjoy it and not perform as well....

Isn't it possible to pitch Technics up so that they play at much faster speeds? I've played in a club before that had them much faster than normal Technics. Personally i'm not a fan of hardstyle and hard trance being too fast, I feel you lose a lot of the impact of the bassline. From the feedback you get on Screamer and on here I can see that a lot of people do enjoy it though ;)

it is possible to pitch up technics, there's a screw you turn to increase the base pitch - but i'm pretty sure doing so has an adverse effect on the pitch in general, makes the deck feel really loose imo..

bass loss - yea, can be an issue when your at home mixing, but on a proper club system there really shouldnt be a problem - certainly aint an issue when our rig is out!

i say never limit urself to what u can do. make urself available for ANY night u get offered. bein fussy will get ya no-where. saying u cant mix on technics without a days practise sounds pretty amatuer-ish to me tbh from a promoter's point of view. ;)

Well I can see both sides of the argument, I know what you mean, but you seem to be quite assuming in what Chaz is actually aiming for. Maybe he isn't really interested in getting somewhere, but is just interested in playing music the way he wants to play it.

I can't speak for him, but I know Chaz puts on free parties so it seems he's far more interested in the music itself than using it to gain fame, in which case his standpoint on the decks issue is more than understandable.

However you are right that if a person is simply interested in becoming famous then this is the wrong way about it. Personally I value integrity more than fame, which is why I agree with Chaz's view.

well, i'll say **** OFF to an industry that dictates to me what equipment i should use - the whole point of DJing (from my pov, imo etc etc) is be to expressive and if i have to use vestax or a pair of spoons to enhance my set, then that's what i'll do.....

it's a good thing i dont agree with any of your last statement really - that's obviously where our differences lie - i couldnt give two hoots if i "make" it or not and certainly not if it requires me to change the way i play.

there's free parties and then there's a south east free party - i wont go into it, you will have had to have been to one to explain - please do come along to our next one mate, i'd really love for you to experience how we do things.....i still havent been to a legal party/event/club that comes close to the parties on my home stomping ground (that in includes the london scene aswell...)

i was only on the defensive as you were implying that i am amaturish and a bad DJ because i need a day's practice on decks that i compare with belt drives and then re-think an entire set/act/records_i've_played_for_the_last_3_years_at_any_sp eed_i_like due to not having the flexabilty to go above +10 (i hate when a DJ gets it wrong and has the slow the current record down as they have gone to far up the pitch!) well, that just go my back up so thought i'd throw a few obsenties in there as i was pissed off at that.

as i originally said, i dont want to get into the whole Vestax vs Technics thing, but all i will say is the large majority of vestax owners i know wont go near a pair of techics, like me, they prefer to pass the headphones.... where as, all the Technics owners i know have no qualms about mixing on Vestax, infact they love using them and wish they could trade in...
but like yourself, they fall for the club=technics and stick with the techincs.....

if it means missing a couple of gigs because of it, like i originally said, i dont care, least i know when i do play i'll be playing the way i want to play and so far, none of this has been an issue, but i am well aware it will be in the future.....

i really love my 2300's........... much more fun to mix on than technics IMHO, true, I'm not as good on technics....... but I ain't bad at adjusting the speed on any spinning wheel so it's the right speed either :lol: as long as the torque's there.....


my old housemate (had technics for years) misses my vestax like ****..... he don't think they are neccesarily better...... just fun.......

I think everyone has been quite tolerant with you, but you pushed Chaz a bit too far, hence his reaction. You're on the defensive now but you've been quite insulting to Chaz in this post. It's insulting to hijack a post intended for someone's feedback when they expressly ask you not to, and you've been insulting in the way you've put across your views here. Technics v Vestax is a person's preference, and people are going to have different opinions so it's useless to try to force your own opinion on someone.

I think if you were a bit more tolerant of other's opinions and a bit more considerate of where you posted it, this debate would have been able to continue without anyone getting offended at all.

Technics v Vestax is a person's preference, and people are going to have different opinions so it's useless to try to force your own opinion on someone.

I think if you were a bit more tolerant of other's opinions and a bit more considerate of where you posted it, this debate would have been able to continue without anyone getting offended at all.

Yeah, but that's where you should have left it and started a new post somewhere else because Chaz asked you to not turn it into a Vestax v Technics debate. Which you then went on to do anyway. Thats called hijacking a thread and going off topic.

It has got something to do with me. I'm a member of this public discussion board and I was giving support to another member's argument. I have kept it going because there was still more to say, and will do until I feel there isn't.

Well I don't enjoy discussing with you, that's for sure! I can't think of anything worse because you've got a very immature and superior attitude on things. I try to be nice and reason to you, saying I can see your side of the argument, but you then go on the offensive at me.

I love the fact that you don't reply to any of my points, which i'll take as hopefully they sunk in a bit.

I honestly only mean to try to help here, whether it was helping Chaz's side of the debate or helping you try not to cause offence if you did not mean to - I was only trying to show you where you maybe had caused confusion or offence, not trying to alter your opinion or argue with you at all.

I can think of much worse things to be called than a mother superior, and hopefully that means that my nice side shows through, but i'm not always right, and i'm certainly not a know it all, that's just not me, and hopefully there are more than a few members on here that will vouch for me on that.

I agree, lets just leave it there, and I apologize if I you think I have been 'sticking my beak in' as it certainly wasn't intended as that.

Just had Chaz (Snort) to play for me at Resonate. Unfortunately we wern't in a position to change over the decks so he had to play on "Shetnics" and he did a fine job too.
By the way Chaz I've got that set on MP3 my son, get on the MSN at the weekend and I'll send it to ya! ;)

erm, so yea - after all my whining, i had to fukin play on them crap ass turn tables ;)
but in my defence, when i was told i couldnt have the vestax swapped over, i did ask not to play and move the date to sometime when the decks could be swapped out.....but was too late, cos flyers had already been designed...
all went OK, a few dropped beats here n there, but no spoon outs...
just a shame it was so FUKIN SLOW! all the MiSSiON crew couldnt get their jump on proper ;) and the hardstyle i played just didnt sound right, far too ploddy, no flow to it....
