I think the artwork of a label is also important to give the music on a label an extra dimension.
Myself i was always font of the artworks from labels like Ground, Soma, Peacefrog.... They always gave that extra taste what the music on vinyl is like. Axis and Purposemaker are 2 more good examples.
How about with you guys?
I like Axis, Warp, Detroit Underground, Subject Detroit and of course Dust Science. Artwork is just as important as the tracks to me.

Ageed the art work and design is very importent with records and is one of the reasons I prefer records to any other form of music media,
I like the BMB on downwards,drum code, shit theres loads
I like covers with comics, visions/scenes, pictures and ofcourse titties ;)
Just had a quick flick through two dozen records in my small collection to check the cover "ART" and to sum it up, it's mostly "design work". A quick summary of it all would go something like "random shape, straight lines, more straight and squiggley lines and sharp edged, bold shapes. Bit of text and label logo. The interesting ones in that handful were some Johannes Heil, Modernist + Bochum Welt and Headroom records. But on the whole, Party flyers are way more interesting than records and their covers :)
And picture discs are awesome :) Thats what vinyl should be all about. Picture discs!!!

I too remeber the anxious moments when I nearly missed out on Pain 23 picture disk - everyone wanted a copy!
Techno sleaves are mostly plain, as long as the musics good then it's a ok.
I quiet liked Definitions spruce up a year ago.

Agree with you on the dust science designs, i was really impressed by there artwork. Also the set that hardcell & grindvik released had some wicked images on it
Colour isn't expensive its the same price as b&w. its just depends on how many colours you use. When you get into 3 or 4 colour designs it can get pretty pricey though.
With wot use said about my designs i tend to go theo ther way i prefer the information ep to ktd 2 with the feet on it. To me the information ep has really good clear typography, and nice layout.
However with all the label designs i do due to costs they have to be done in single colour, which personally i don't like. I think 2 colour has real impact, like the dust science designs which are red & black.
At Recordindustry, if you deliver a design pn CMYK / full color mode, it's even cheaper then doing a design with just 1 or 2 colors!Quote:

I`ve been making enquiries about gloss black on matt black for my new label, and it`s not cheap at all.

I really like the cover,s on Recycled loops & Consumer recreation.
Their really colorful & very smart designs Im into cover designs I think if you,ve spent the time to put together a top track then I think you have to put a decent cover on the disk because when you flick through the tune,s in your local record shop many just have black sleaves & don,t say check me out something bright & colorful catch,s your eye,s & you,ve got to check it out thats how i found recycled loops when i picked up marko nastic devil in my pants that found me my favorite style of music & Dj in the form of UMEK! :clap:
