What speed does everyone prefer their techno at, either to listen to, produce or play out? I tend to stick around the 142-145 area usually... I don't think techno sounds any better any faster than that, and it leads to dancer fatigue lol ;)

for me anything from 135 to 145, depending on the mood, and the type of tracks that im playing.
Yep, I'd go for that too although I've found myself at 150+ by the end of some particularly good nights.Quote:

I like my techno at about 145, to blend in which faster harder trance...
depending on what sort of set, start at around 135 then build it up and up:)
production i like it at about 137-140ish as a generalisation, unless there are no beats to it?
yeah yeah, now lets get back to the serious topic....
big pole masturbator
140 - 145 is perfect enough to dance to, listen to, hear all sounds and production from a track, once you go over 145 I believe that many sounds are either distant or shortened by a alot.

..from 140-150... depends how I feel and the crowd tho...
Depends where the person before you has left it, normally i wouldn't change it drastically unless it really needed it. At the moment I like it in and around 145.
Too true.... If the guy before me was going slow (I'd hope the promoter wouldn't put me on after someone playing 130 tho), I'd start out slow and build it up... and vice versa... I don't beleive in keeping the pitch static for the whole set unless your going 3 decks and don't have any time to pitch up cause it's always beatmixing...
When I produce: 146
When I play at home for myself: 155
When I play for an audience: anywhere from 145-165 depending on their dancing habits
"BIONIC PUSSY MUNCHER" - haha thats wicked!
I don't DJ but I like things a little slower about 134-140, v rarely over 140.
Fast doesn't necessarily mean hard tho, imo, I reckon a tune can have a fairly slow tempo but the sounds used are so harsh and agressive and the way it's constructed make it hard as mo-fing nails?
I prefer this sort of hard tune to one thats being played way too fast, you can actually move to it in a weird kinda way without looking like a spaz having 3 fits at once!
Well I do anyway?
i agree, in fact i think things a little slower can have a much bigger, chunkier feel.. im not into fast shit either.
Stuff I write 126-136
Mixing 136-140
I prefer to play around 142ish, but I often have to adjust to the venue and audience. Bottom line, if I wanna groove, its gonna be in the low 130s, if I want people to start having near-heart attacks, 142+. When I produce, 99% of the time I like 138, not too fast, not too slow...
150+ :D
but I think it may be influenced by the fact that I live in an area over-run with hardcore, freeform and d'n'b so I tend to like my music a tad faster than most anyway. I like the energy a good set of off-the wall 150+bpm tech can create on the dancefloor, at least the people in my area seem to enjoy it and in the end, its all about getting the people to move
i play all my old techno like evolutions and twisted vinyl at about 165 bpm but play the new stuff at about 145
135-150 Production.
