I use Fruity Studio mainly but am planning to get deeper into Ableton Live or Cubase perhaps. Possibly using stuff bounced down from FL or rewired..
What do YOU use and why?
:)

Cubase Sx , because i have used it since v2 on the Atari ;)
haha
i was gonna say the same thing :techno:
Logic 7 Pro,
because i use a mac and it runs so smoothly in os-x
i personally prefer it to cubase, the plug-ins that come with it are outstanding , also it uses AU plugins which are much more stable than VSt's and i think sound better.
the only down side with logic 7 is you do have to buy it,you cant really copy it and it comes with a hefty price tag.
Mine is Cubase sx3 coz its easy to use and good quality!!
Ableton Live 5
I really don't need to explain why... :techno:
Live 5.
Does everything I need it to...I still have yet to run into any major roadblocks with it, besides the problem with the Absynth patch I had 2 weeks ago, which is now sorted.
yeah, live + fruity seems the way to go for me. atm :cheese:
please go on, peeps!
Oh and I guess I should mention I'm on a PC. I built it myself last March... AMD 3200+ 1GB etc etc
Sucker boots in like 10 seconds. :eyes:
Macs are lovely but $$$$
Live 4, though probably upgrading to 5 with the new machine.
Using Live mostly because its inhouse Sampler / Effects are pretty tight and low on the CPU usage. And of course because it can be used to perform Live. I do however find the MIDI editing in it is absolute ARSE compared to every other sequencer I've used.
Any improvements to that in 5?
I really don't see why people complain about the midi implementation in Live.
It does everything I need it to do.
If you need to edit midi at the event level you have issues anyway :cheese:
Except record sysex data?
Live 5, OSX, G4 1.5 gig powerbook 768ram for live+O1X, SX3, logic express 7, digital performer, Peak 4
Pentium 2.4, 2gigram, Cubase sx 3, Live 5, soundforge, XP, O1X for studio
Live 5's midi implementation is chronic. Navigation is terrible and the tools laughable.
Im a registered user of all of the above BTW except peak.
remember when people had MIDI gear???? your sequencer is the heart of a hardware studio, not a VSTi one. Cubase still kicks arse when it comes to managing external gear, logic used to have better timing on the outboard, but since apple bought them out they really dont seem to give a shit, expecially on the sounddiver front.
Cubase is a good program for keeping everything in check midiwise, its just that IMHO the sound engine lacks that little VA Va VOOM...
Ps.. i know about the offset issue in cubase, its curable... i love all these programs in their own little way, just a tool for a job.
And BTW when it comes to recoridng audio... pro tools with the 001 or the 002 sounds blooming fabulous!
I like using lots of different bits of software (and hardware) because everything has it's strengths.
Cubase is the bit I know best though. (After OctaMED, but that's getting old now!)
OctaMED! get tracking!
You knowsit, klaaaaaaart.
Safe as ****
OctaMed is coool ! Haven't used that since I was little, might install it in a tic
Protools is the final production tool of choice. But I've just installed FL Studio on the PC so I can do some fake scratching :)
Pah, where do I get a tracker for a Mac? !
running a powerbook g4 with Logic 6 Pro and Live 4
i've been with logic for ages and it was the first program to jump out at me and make my work flow quicker. feels really intuitive and is stable as
i'm relatively new to live, but again working with it is so quick and flows nicely.

If that's important to you, why not just use Midi-OX?Quote:

What REALLY frustrates me is the fact that so many people in the open source community are pouring rediculous amounts of effort into creating billions of quality freeware trackers like Psycle and Buzz, but not one traditional sequencer. So many great ideas in these projects, but who could be fukked trying to program music using what looks like ASM.
daniel, have a look at
http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/
if you don't know that yet. free and looks cubasy, imho
hehehe octaMED, now that was revolutionary. 4 tracks at decent quality, or 8 at really weird shite quality.
Loved that program dearly. All those columns whizzing downwards... such fun...
I use Cubase SX2 with Reason 3 on a custom built PC for production.
I've got an ibook to run final scratch, and I'm still getting to grips with ableton for djing and live stuff.
Thanks for the link oh loopy one... looks interesting - though a little limited. Pity it's not true opensource cause I'm looking for another project to contribute to.
OK, played with it for 5 minutes and have exhausted the feature set. I have to say that my prior assumption was wrong. This thing isn't limited at all.. You need some at least some features for something to be limited as opposed to completely useless. I've seen better pieces of crap on serial boxes. 1/10.
Pro Tools Free is a FAR better option.
Never tried it myself, tbh. Just came to my mind. And it looks pretty.Quote:

Splitloop are a good example, if you like Breaks at all.
That looks pretty cool - especially if you just want to record hardware etc.Quote:

I think it using it again would probably make me cry.

What the hell is going on?
WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE 1200!
Like I said though, Pro Tools Free (different to LE I think) kinda makes this point moot.
i think i would be rather happy to have sth. like that which DOES not have to many features. just in order to arrange tracks exported from fruity studio. but that's just me, perhaps. and i mean - it's free - so ;)Quote:

I've never used it so I couldn't possibly comment.
9 out 10 badgers disagree...
Try renoise. Uses fast tracker 2 commands but has full vst suport and all sorts of shit. www.renoise.comQuote:

I reckon more companies should take this path instead of creating demos. If people can't save/ export they will just pirate it to test it out, and then provided they decide on using the software more often, will most often then not really feel like buying it since they won't be getting anything extra for their cash except maybe tech support and new updates.
Yeah, I like ReNoise.Quote:

Thank god for that.
Things haven't change all that much from the days of modplay/modedit.
