Having and playing only the most upfront stuff?.
I have noticed that in Trance circles especially people will only play something if it's on promo and then as soon as it comes out they will never play it again.
Surely if a tune is a good tune then it doesn't matter how old it is?.

You have a point... but when everyone else has access to the same good tunes... you might get bored of being the same as everyone else?
Also if you have played them reguarly then might have got a bit bored of it, and something new might have come along?
Think joofs latest column in the m8 mag says it all, that djs now find it harder than ever to be original. So maybe thats why the play upfront as possible?
I pulled out veracocha - carte blance for Fluid, and Push - strange world for most of my gigs. Age shouldnt stop you playing tunes... but i dont really know many djs who do let it stop them.
Although on that note, i seen john kelly (first time i seen him aswell, and he wasnae all that) in ibiza and i recognised every tune he played and was quite bored tbh... its nice to hear new music and continually hear the newest tunes imo.
well dont know about you guys but i always throw in a classic or 2 when im djing out as it always gets them going
if you think a tune is good,then play it weather its a promo or a classic war song from the 1940's!!!!!!!

yea as pearcy and co have said play what you want no matter when it came out.
i can totally see where ya comming from tippelypeeps (what a name :lol:)
get this alot around wigan and the north west, tunes dont usually last for more than 2 months then theres a whole load more come in.
its pretty sad really cause you do loose some tunes which you personally like no matter what the dj thinks.
i play a range of absolutly everything, hard/uplifting/vocal/prog/commercial, all the trance i can find i like.
then when ive siffed through all that i play something ive made. ;)

for me it's all about new music. it's all about how music develops. that's what is the exciting thing about music in my head. listening to new stuff and fresh stuff keeps me going. it's what drives me. if i was just playing old stuff, i know i'd get so bored. there would come a time when you'd heard that same tune for the 600000000000 th time and you'd think, sod this i'm giving up. at least when you're trying to be cutting edge or upfront theres a seriously exciting driving force behind what you do????
like i say, it's all my opinion and i'd love to know what other ppl think....
i cant help thinking that an 'upfront ' set finished off with just one or 2 classics always goes down well.
you have to mix a set equally of new releases and classics, otherwise people who know less about the music will bore of your set, they want to hear tunes they know....
Yeah kinda see where you are comin from, but if you are dropping equal measures of classics and new stuff, then i dont see that as really goin forward.... i usually have 2 or 3 classics of different genres in my box, and will play 1 or 2 of them if im playing.Quote:

for dj's like myself who are unkown , its not possible to play all the latest tunes , if you are warming up / on before big names who will end up playing the same sort of stuff

i agree at times its great to drop a classic for example recently i saw rogrieguiz play at xspoure he droped hennes n cold- the second trip and it stormed before hand tho will gold had been playin mostly test presses from gas so at that point in the nite a classics was well recieved .
I think what really matters is that the dj reads the crowd well sum crowds wont respond to well to to many anthems others respond better with them
