yeah i think it was good.. a lot of producers tried new things and there were a lot of good records released.
for me personally it was great to get the label going.
hopefully 2008 will be even better..
speaking of which, isnt it time for the 2007 awards? :xcool:
Also think it wasn´t too bad..
Like Baz said, lots of artists and producers tried some new and different stuff, which can only be good for Techno Music i think,or to say it with the Gang of Four:One step forward,2 steps back..
what artists tried something new and different?
D.A.V.E. the Drummer with Mutate to Survive for example..
i thought 2007 was a big year of change for techno, it seems to do this every 5 or so years imo, but this year it was very noticable. can't wait to see what 2008 has in store and i really hope that the industry sorts itself out and enable up and coming producers to get their music out there.
i think it was a bad year for techno untill my first choons in over six months have just came through (Bought online), now for me it is the best.
if techno was wine then this would deffo be a good year ! hehe
can't say too much inspired me, but i did hear a few decent records
Lets see - Robag Wrhume, Pascal FEOS, Luca Baccetti, Concrete DJz, Deepchord, Deadmau5, Joel Mull and the new D.A.V.E. and Ant stuff is pushing new ideas.
Damn fine year if you can be arsed looking around.
if techno was a wine this year produced a lot of 'blue nun' and leibfraumilch.
cheap plonk made for the supermarket masses.
hahaha... ok i get ya im a lower class sorry i bow to thee!
i think this year was deffo better than last for uk techno at least... i feel with techno nights really holding there own and new strong events starting show that there is still a big techno crowd and more than that the kids are getting on to it thro im guessing the whole minnimal boom ... also i feel minimal sectors of minimal have started to get recognised and less alienated by the harder techno scene thus keeping us all under the same banner of techno that said its a massive year with techno djs dominating the big festivals i.e. carl cox , dave clarke , sven vaith and more... yes there is a comercial element of annoying techno all over 2007 but at least its techno gettin much needed pr as one of the main reasons "Harder" techno production has slipped in last 4 years is that the big players have moved away due to lack of bookings and sales and i feel its the club sceane boom in techno will knock on to luring bigger artists back to putting out the stuff i know i still am waiting to hear.
I think main thing im getting at 2007 was better than 2006 and i think 2005 so yes was a good year hahahaaha
It was another year as far as I can remember.
Nothing at all remarkable happened. Lots of samey samey records that no one remembers came out, and a few good ones came out oo.
A number of techno club nights have had encouraging attendance, and some new ones have survived the year, which is very positive.
To balance that out karmicly, some more record shops have hit the shit pan, along with more distribution.
Another year, and things seemed to have leveled out. Hopefully then, things will be on the up for next year.
We've had great year, here's to 2008
noodle had a good year. Nottingham didn't
the way i see things, from a clubbing point of view things seen to have gone really well,a few new nights have poped up and seem to be doing well.but from a buying records point of view, things have been dire imo.
I visited less parties than usual, but the one i did were quality. managed to hear lenny dee twice, so i can't say it was a bad year from that perspective at all :)
so much new music, a lot of of it was excellent, some was average and some was shit...same as every year. but yeah, not all of the excellent stuff was techno hmmm...
i liked 2007. it has been a good year for music for me anyway. i have explored new things, found new directions. there have been some solid productions from a lot of people.
very good year as far as going out goes. Theres a lot more happening and techno artists cropping up non techno lineups.
keep up the good work promoters.

Drinks in the air for those of us who busted our asses this year trying to keep the train going.
meh, not much of a change from 2006. more labels popping up though, but this will continue to be the case. i dont think it was a bad year, same as any other, nothing seminal anymore, but there hasnt been for years except for maybe animal worship.
I was neglectful of Techno this year :(
I was focussed on other things and therefore placed techno as my second priority for the first time in along time....
I'm sorry :(
I did enjoy the sounds still! and I did renew my vows ;)
im a fan of mark brooms latest direction as well as other artists following in similar foot steps.
every year their is a bunch fo bland ass bullshit records popping up in the techno bins (as well as any other genres) so thats not news to anybody and it wasnt any worse this year.
in Los Angeles 2007 was a good year for techno. more promoters more djs more artists and a few more records bringing attention to our city. more noise in 2008. audioinjection and drumcell straight pimpin.
WHat was that one song from Mark Broom it was on a various artists ep
sounded like it was backwards but it was dope as hell, forgot the label too but im sure some of you rmemeber
been offline for a few weeks just saw this thread, was a little confused by it
it's never, ever a good year FOR Techno. Every year there are without doubt, always far more bad records released than good. Which is the basic crux of it all, without the music, there's no reason for clubs, without the clubs there's no need for punters etc etc. Also, the ratio of bad to good has imo definately risen, so if anything it's been an awful year in that sense.
It has however been a good year for certain producers/djs/artists, which is what i think is important. There have been some producers truely putting out brilliantly well done records, records with meaning as well as dancefloor qualities, and in general just doing top quality electronic music. For me personally about 75% of that music is predominently for home listening too.
Techno as a scene is far, far too fragmented to get a balanced and honest reflection of the year as a whole, and people base the scene's progression, or re-gression if you will, on their own personal experience which is pretty much null and void.
As individuals, some people have had a great year, some have had a good year, some have had an ok year, some have had a shit year. Techno as a whole had the same year as it did last year. And the year before that. And the year before that..... *repeat ad infinum*
Isn't it all about personal experience anyway?
its all opinion if techno has been "good or bad" this year. One man's meat is another man's poison!
Personally tho, as long as I am finding new OR old choons every year and there are good choons still floating amongst the massive amount of shit (hope-wise) that year will always be good for me.
oh stop it plastikman played your joint b happy for once
eh? of course im happy, who wouldnt want Hawtin playing their stuff? Im still chuffed about that and i still watch the video of him playing it, which to some is cool, to some is alarmingly sad. I'd agree on both
but my original thread was not an advocate for or against what people deem as a "good year for techno"
i dont view the scene as a whole like alot of people do, so naturally im going to have very different opinions on the scene. Like i say, too fragmented, too many people get into techno and the scene from completely contrasting circumstances and experiences in the first place as it is.
Apologies for not just naming a pointless, ego boosting "best of" list or something similiar
it's good to be back
this is what happened to techno in 2007
www.residentadvisor.net
good question indeed....
With me, its a vicious cycle starting at each new year of me worrying if the good music out there will ever stop coming... only to find myself at the end of that year totally satisfied with what I've collected....and then worrying again about if the music will ever stop...
...it wont...ever.
...ask some of the talented cats on these boards...they're the ones pushing it forward...
:)
in my opinion its always gna b a good yr 4 techno....all the time!!!
theres always new and excitin shit comin out plus the discovery of old shit aswell.....4 me a wish a had the money to just buy every techno record n the world but sadly thts neva gna happen!! a cant get enough of it or get every bit of techno tht a want.....
for me a luv discoverin the old shit!!! luv tht like craaazy .... but at the same time a luv the new stuff tht comes out....so good!!!
face it techno is the bomb...its always gna b the bomb and it will b the bomb until u get board of it...
a just wish sumtimes the UK would b like the europeans when it comes to puttin techno on!! big events....big line ups....etc.....the uk still does it good tho!!
for example ave just discovered the techno experiment dwn in manchester n a group of us r goin dwn in march!! gna b well good.....its things like this tht makes techno good eh!!
we just nd to keep pushin it!!! as tesco say "every little helps"
Brandon's a good man....
As for me I guess 2007 has been alrite....
Although I think 2008 will only be much much better in many ways.
As a whole I think there's been a small increase in listeners (very small);
But I think that just leaves the doors wide open for some bright idea to push it back into the public a bit.
No matter what I'm really looking forward to the future.....
And as long as the technology exists....the musik will as well. I know that much.
Nah it was on a theory sampler I believe
Trust me I thought it was super dope though!
Good year for selfish reasons.
Got my first releases arranged and had hawtin play my track. Put on some great parties and made a lot of new techno friends.
Saw black dog and derrick may for the first time, and was very, very impressed. Saw the glory of the exit festival, the muddiness of glade and the enjoyable predictability of sonar.
Heard a few good tracks, bought very little new stuff though. Not that bothered to be honest, never been particularly desperate to keep "upfront" when there's so much quality stuff I've missed over the years. Anything thats new and really good will make itself known eventually. The cream always rises to the top, it doesn't have to be there straight away. And with a host of new labels and producers out there is going to take even longer for the less promoted and marketed tracks to get out there.
This is the first year I didn't buy a single piece of vinyl, and can't say I miss it.
There's talented types out there doing their thing, and techno's being pushed on lots of different boundaries. Realy looking forward to see what 2008 brings.
nah its been shite
For myself as producer it was really a cool year!
Putting out 2 releases on Underground Liberation,
and remixing Juan Atkins & Orlando Voorn's Game One on Night Vision was such a thrilling experience.
For me as DJ I didn't played that much. But the parties I played were all great experiences. The party together with Jeff Mills in april was amazing.
Let's see what 2008 will bring us.
techno didnt seem to be so much of a dirty word this year, ive seen a much more positive reaction towards the music through good attendance at nights...not just techno events either, have noticed from going to breaks nights that 4/4 dirty house/ techno is coming through in there sets and the punters go mad for it.
but on the other hand not a great year on the release front. got some good tunes but pretty much the same as 2006 maybe a little worse imo
