oooh good topic mate! I agree with the above, absolutely. Er... theres a couple I feel come under that catagory- Jeff Mills did that CD/DVD with the Montpelier Philharmonic Orchestra, that is pretty spell binding.

Then there's Pet Shop Dave, a mate who does a completely live wicked acid set. Not sure what the sound quality is on this vid cuz I have no sound.

could be scorn the metal band that he means?
hahaha nah, doubt it mate- they are poop.
either way i can't see techno
Hellfish and Producer for the Deathchants:smile:
hardcore techno would be **** all without it imo
mon the hiphop crossover
lately everyone out of the Don't camp and similar labels like Coin operated. In my book defo taking things forward, not enough of it about though.
ribbz and aggressor, i think they deserve a mention as i bet they got alot of people into techno, not only myself.
then its the obvious really, surgeon, vogel, regis, ruskin
new - reeko is really impressing me along with exium. viva espanya!!
raiden & roddel (the dying punks) techno dnb
hardly techno, dying punks sounds like drum and bass
do you actually know what techno is? Cos that is not techno
banks...its techno dnb....i'm not debating what techno is...the thread says ''innovaters'' in a techno thread...i gave u some...
course i know what techno is
just like hellfish and produce release 'hardcore techno'
heres a techno innovater for ye....
dave clarke
:teeth:
If you exclude Scorn for not being techno then surely Aphex Twin and Leftfield and the like are a bit iffy as well. But in terms of innovation he's up there with anyone that's been mentioned.
just found out Producer is playing at my mates nite on september 11th in edinburgh with Remarc playing aswell:biggrin:

Me.
Of course.
I'll whack yer ****in heads in with a ratchet
Innovators as in people doing something new and original...
Hawtin's past and current contribution is pretty formidable, irrespective of whether or not you like what he's done.
Jerome Hill for me defined a new genre and approach in techno simply through his djing. Combining diverse styles together to make a new sound. Props.
Dave the Drummer made hard techno funky and fun in a way I haven't seen anyone else do.
Booker Shade crossed genre divides and brought new people into the scene, plus helped define a slightly different sound. Only have to look at the hordes of "bookashade" sounding artists to follow to recognise the contributino made there.
Raiden & Offkey crew are doing something genuinely different. New crowds, new sound, new directions. If gabber can be called techno I don't see whats stopping the offkey sound from eventually finding its way into the fold, or being accepted as a sound that straddles genres.
Jeff Mills, despite getting it horribly wrong and falling flat occassionally - involved AV, drama and tension in performance I haven't seen anyone else do. Price of riding on the seat of your pants is falling flat on your face occassionally.
Lots of other people, those guys sprung to mind though.
Most innovators are just doing something new and original with old ideas. Or doing an old idea in a different way and communicating somethign different in the process.
Plastikman.
Dj Sneak
Exactly, him Paul Johnson, Cajmere and other chicago cats sure as **** did their fair share to contribute and bring something new and original to the table.
if innovators are those who are doing something new and original, could we please talk about something new happening now, not 5-10-15 years ago? with all due respect to already mentioned artists
That does seem like a strange statement to make - doesn't matter how long you've been into techno, its just good that you are. Different people discover dfferent aspects of techno that bring them into the music and that can lead onto new sounds and artists. Theres damn all wrong with any of those names he mentioned, especially Jason Leach.
been djing for about 6 years,, but i'm interesed in getting all the good shit oot of it. Now that i have the resorces to do so.
tbh i have a heard alot of older shit that i can't put my finger on and say what its is which actually got me into techno but it doesn't pump my nads like some of the sounds we are getting these days.
i've still heard of alot of atists that have been mentioned on this thread so get thinking and post em up please
Tube jerk

Speedy J
Dave The Drummer
Oliver Lieb
The Advent
DeepChord & Model 500 aka Juan Atkins for dub techno vision
errr maybe
Zenith!
This guy made amazing music in the past,
Something between hardcore and hardtrance, very specific and beautiful
Unfortunately after relasing some great productions on IST has switched to do more comercial music.
speedy j and patrick skoog. glenn wilson, chris liebeng , robert natus, Kaos and s ewe.
speedy j and chris liebeng collabs work .
regis is in no way, shape or form an innovator.
ruskin as a DJ, maybe, but as a producer - no way.
would also question the inclusion of Glenn Wilson by another poster.
all decent DJs/producers, but not innovators.
some definite innovators are/were:-
Joey Beltram,
Robert Hood,
Cisco,
Steve Poindexter,
Lenny D,
Aphex Twin.
Aphex twin
Square pusher
Venetian snares
regis left bmb in very innovative way...
Lenny D invented a whole new form of dance music.
can't stand his music myself but facts are facts.
Regis made a good lockgroove once called Speak To Me.
If you call folding up a distribution company while owing several artists and labels alot of money, then I guess Regis is an innovator.
