At the end of day it doesn't matter how many there are some are playing it and are utter pants. I'm going to name names, but there are few out there. Only getting bookings because they 'bring a bus'. Pah!!! Thats the type of DJs that we could do without in the scene.

but as a promoter myself i know the kind of dj's you are describing but sometimes a promoter needs dj's like that to get the numbers they require to break even!! then again other dj's run nights so they can do swap deals to get a break in an other area!!

I realise that being a promoter myself and if you are starting up a night I can understand how this type of arrangement happens. Its when larger scale events with a large following still do this. Someone needs to give these talented guys a break and its becoming nearly impossible. Its frustrating when you can blantantly see they are shite.

I think Mark himself hits the nail on the head in his (now legendary) IMO Interview.....

"Theres is so many DJs, so many Wannabe DJs but no-one actually, well not a lot of people are able to make it their life and its a shame right because there is a lot of talented DJs out there that dont get recognition but it only takes the one bit of luck, the one break and I was very lucky because I wrote for Eternity and they were able to get me this and from this you put your Heart and Soul into it what you do and you give your everything and then it builds and builds and builds but its the one break, the one break and its hard for everyone but you gotta have the passion, you gotta have the love for it!!"

My personal point of view is, that as a promoter you need to "hedge your bets" progress the night through from Trance and Hard Trance through to Hardstyle and Techno, the variety of DJs and styles through the night means that you will get a better attendance than if you stuck with just the one genre (ie Hardstyle) which is pidgeonholing the night a bit.... If the UK Dance Scene was a little more like Holland then we might get some Huge Hardstyle events but UK clubbers associate Hard Music with getting off their Box instead of just chilling out with a few beers whilst listening to some quality Hardstyle tunes/DJs

I think he did hit the nail on the head there for certain.

There are loads of DJs and promoters out there with not just no talent, but no love or passion for what they do. They are in it primarily for the recgonition, money or to 'make friends' (Yes I do know a few). And of course a lot with very brown tongues ;)

but half the time when you are lucky to get a break, the previso for coming back is if you do 'bring a bus' the first time round

it's happened to me on a couple of occasions
    campaign for real hardstyle

If you are going to play solely hardstyle, then you need to be damn good. It's as simple as that because the only slots you will get in a club will be from 12 onwards, and depending on how late your club licensing in your city is, it might not give you much of a chance.

Personally I absolutely hate hearing music too hard at least until after 11 o'clock. It kills the night because there is nowhere you can go after that but back down, and it's too early for that. Many times I have turned up to a gig to play the main slot and arrived at 10 to hear a DJ playing exactly what I would which means i've then got to tone it down a bit, which might affect the people in the club's enjoyment. The only thing you can really aim for if you are up and coming is the later slots, the graveyard shifts if you like. No-one minds you banging it out then.

I can totally undestand where promoters come from, because it takes a very well skilled DJ to be able to create highs and lows with just hardstyle or any kind of hard music. It's a subtle thing that many people don't even see, but you can be assured that all of the DJ's mentioned who stand out are more than aware of it. Promoters listen to CDs, so perhaps if you're not getting booked, you simply may just need to get back to the bedroom practising.

It's easy to blame club politics after all (though they do exist) but sometimes you need to be fairer to the clubs. Most clubs don't cater for hard dance, not because they are scared of the druggy reputation - it's more that drug users don't buy drinks, and that's where most clubs gain their profit. I don't like the fact that people who bring entourages get bookings easier, but it makes sense for the promoters. The only thing to do there is get more friends!

This is a bit of a harsh statement m8 - maybe think of others having different tastes before you say things are shite. Personally I dislike MC'ing, and if I were to say that was fu*king shite you'd probably take offence.

MC-ing in my opinion is the scourge of this planet.
it absolutely sucks, ruins good sets, ruins good nites, givz me a sore head and has no place in Hardstyle, Hard Trance or any other form of electronic music except cheesey happy hardcore and drum n bass.

There is a way of fixing that lads dont go to any nights that advertise mc's.... Its a very simple solution!!!! Just as ppl who dont like hardstyle shouldnt attend events involving hardstyle!! Then everyone is happy!!
