i agree, but wot if u only like that genre? i play hard trance as well which i love equally. but if i didnt like any other genre, i wouldnt start playin em just to get gigs. f uck playin music you dont like. which is why purely hardstyle djs are at a disadvantage

I mean ok some nights do bang it from 8pm just ask some of my regulars lol but yeah it seems to be hard for any dj to get a break through but in the scene we have in the uk you have to have some variation within your set or even be able to warm up for the headliners.
I run nights with guests & residents but i also have nights where its just up & coming dj's and two residents to give new blood a chance and let the ressies get the opportunity of a peak time slot! but not many ppl do that

which is really unfortunate. i mean, i was lucky because dave (subsonic) has the same approach as you. otherwise i still wouldnt have had a single dj set

but until more venues start to let hard dance promoters in or even promote inhouse hard dance nights, the uk is gonna have aload of quality dj's up&coming & established twiddling their thumbs as there just aint enough venues & events to cater for them all and give the opportunities!!

seriously what stops the evolution of a dj?

dj learns to play in bedroom
dj plays in front of mates
dj gets the chance to play at a small venue a few times (after 1st time it shuts down)
dj plays at more venues & bigger venues (no venues/not as much)

sadly the local authorities in most districts dont want venues playing hard dance as its associated to the drug culture! So less & less venues want to be up against the councils/police.

about the only thing you can do is either start your own night, or start producing, and get noticed that way.

it's a pain in the ass but it's the way it is. entering dj comps is a good way to get noticed as well

thats a stupid attitude by the authorities though! if everyone was drugged up instead of pissed then there wouldnt be anywhere near as much trouble @ the weekend. im not glorifying drugs, but its sad that they promote alcohol and scorn(if thats the right word) drugs for which the only reason is the legality of them.

exactly. every dj cant play totally different coz everyones limited by their chosen genres. the only way i can see is for djs to get so good at mixing that its stupid, like every mix inch perfect every time which is near impossible. although i think its better a dj is picked for his skills, not for the music he plays as long as it fits with the theme of the nite. how can someone like me stand out that far from the rest?

i know, i mean, how big an element in this is luck? tbh a lot of djs i see live dont mix especially well or distictively but then again, is that due to lazyness now that their known?

i think its about finding your own unique style which is very difficult in a field that there are so many dj's trying to break through.

Mark is an excellent dj and a thorough crowd entertainer.

Mzone just does his own thing and rocks big time,imho.
