i think the best tricks are the ones that sound liek they were part of the record. anything more is showing off

i disagree. if you think you can enhance a record by doing whatever you like to it, then that can only be good.

but surely if you do it well, it sounds like it was ment to be recorded that way.

just as if you do it badly or too often, it sticks out like a sore thumb
