Default cheap way to add warmth

i recently bought a cheap vaccuum tube based microphone pre-amp (Samson C-Valve for $CDN 170) for recording live samples, but for fun i tried running a virtual analog synth through it, and WOW does it sound warm and fat when i overdrive it. there is some unpleasant hiss associated with the 50-60 db of gain i'm using, but most of it i can remove in cool edit. i imagine that this would be less of a worry with a better quality pre-amp.

a couple of months ago i got a focusrite platinum penta compressor/mic pre ($300) and i think it adds a great tube/warm sound for the price, definitley a piece of gear worth checking out.

Yeah i read some good articles about those samson units. The price is awesome. I read the compressor sounds sweet as well

Those little tfpro compressors that r a couple hundred $US add a lot of warmth as well :)

i have the tfpro p5 compressor, and it does add some warmth, but not nearly as much as the tube pre-amp.

i just tweak the thermostat and get everything running at 27o

    that sure warms things up

i also use an mpa ART gold pre amp that has a digital out .
All i can say is that it looks pretty cool
