    Default Reverb on percussion elements

Has anyone got any good tips on adding a spot of reverb to percussion? I currently use a send verb set to a decay time of .5 seconds, to stop muddiness, but still the percussion sounds muddy and unclear. With less verb it sounds too dry, I just can't seem to get the right amount  .

    a couple simple tricks:

    1) use eq to get rid of reverb in the 200-400hz area.

    2) use a gate to chop the tail off.

    3) experiment with the pre-delay to get seperation between the original sound and the verb

also, jimfish's suggestion in the other thread about using a little distortion on the key frequencies of the dry sound to bring them out against the reverb works wonders.
