This is what appeared on the Country Club website today, published by the owner Clive:

    'The next few lines of text are the most difficult I will ever write. So here goes;

THE COUNTRY CLUB WILL CLOSE FOR GOOD on the 26th OCTOBER HALOWEEN PARTY!

Why? The pressures of owning a club like this are enormous, and as you all know I have been very ill twice this year. Mostly stress related, should i continue it will undoubtably kill me. The COUNTRY CLUB has been my passion for 5 years, I have loved every second of it, and now to say goodbye to my LOVE is heartbreaking..

I tried so hard to put some deals together that would allow the club to continue, but alas, they all failed. So many of you are responsible for creating this special place, so many of you have stood bye when all seemed lost...I AM SO PROUD THAT TOGETHER WE HAVE CREATED A LEGEND, You will remeber this mad little house on the hill, and the quirky old guy that lived there, for the rest of your lives, so value your memories. Be PROUD LIKE ME THAT YOU WERE PART OF IT....

Oh! and next time you see DJ MERI shake his hand because without him C C would have died 2 years ago.....RESPECT TO THAT MAN AND HIS INTEGRITY...see you all on the 26th for a final goodbye and one hell of a party....THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH'

Well, I can't quite believe it. The Country Club is legendary and it's all over.

Today I spoke to Clive and sure enough the club will close. The last party will be 26th October. And there's no way I'm going to miss it. Please come out and support the best underground trance club in the UK!

If you can, please visit the CC site and show your appreciation for such an amazing place. It would mean so much to the owner...

That's a damn shame. I loved that Club, and there recent bookings of Dj Natron (flutlict) and A.S.Y.S I thought was showing a healthy life line... I am very sorry to see another club go under in the southwest.

I was sad to see Monastry go (which I'm sure you were too Mark Eg) as again it was a very good hard working club and Sally and Don were VERY unlucky.

This is a big blow to the underground clubbing society of the southwest.

Always sad to hear of these things happening and you can't help but feel it's because of commercial nights like Godskitchen killing off the little clubs with there £25+ entry fee events with contracted mainstream DJ's. Sad thing to see.

I wonder if Tom Costelloe will look in to Meri or Cross + Spin Out possibly playing at DA on one of the All Star's nights?

Unfortunately, the reason why the CC is closing is because of complete idiots who dont give a **** about music. 95% of the people in that place were the nicest, kidest people I've ever met (including the owner) but it was that 5% that caused problems that killed the CC.

I'm not going to go into the reasons why the CC is closing... but it's heartbreaking. Please support Clive. Respect to the true CC Crew!

Just wanted to add to Simon that the C.C is not the kind of club to be affected by commercial clubs, its a class by itself as im sure Mark will agree as will anyone else thats actually been there a few times. I have been going there for about 2 years and my only regret is that i didnt start going sooner! "You never forget your first time" i remember the first time i pulled up in the car, up this stoney rough track, then this weather beaten rather dull looking building. I walked up the stairs and in through the doors and couldnt believe my eyes, somethign magical happens inside. Its undescribable. The music sets the mood immediately and the atmostphere is unreal!.

Then you make your way down stairs, on the way down ur chest vibrates to the driving bass emerging from the downstairs (Main) room. Walk through the monsters mouth (Decor on the surroundings to the room) and onto the dance floor where a 25k sound system meets you with great approval to your ears.

After that one night i was hooked as is everyone else i have ever spoken to there. It truly is impossible to explain this place. It will be sorely missed, and all because of a few individuals.

What kept this amazing place such a magical and welcoming place ? what was its secret? one word......

    CLIVE! (the owner)

His love for the music, and the people that attended week after week were what made it what it was/is. He has done so much for so many people (almost to the point of killing himself with all the stress of "other" matters) it is a real shame some people did not realise, either that or they just didnt didnt give a f**k. It makes me truly angry to see it go and for the reason behind it.

Ive seen Mark play many times up there, aswell as many other huge names, DJ Natron (Flutlicht), Lab 4 to mention but a few and always supported by the best residents, past and present, you could ask for (Meri, Cross + Spinout, BenEye, Dave Scott, Liberator).

Closing night 26th Oct is sure to be an emotional one, i will be sure to be there early to ensure i get in and who better than Mark to play the C.C out one last and very sad time. Im sure there will be a few tears - (And who gives a f**k.)

Anyways, that said all thats left to say now for one last time Mark .......

    "See you down the front!!"

    Goodbye Country Club! :'(
