I'm a life long Forest fan, originally from Nottingham and remember the heady days of the late 70s when we were, WITHOUT DOUBT, the best team in the world. And that was because of Clough.
I managed to meet him about 3 years ago on the Victoria embankment at the side of the Trent about 2 weeks before I left Notttingham to go an live in Brighton. The meeting was just a chance one and as I saw him I just had to go over, ask to shake his hand and thank him for giving me such happy memories as a kid watching Forest. I did and he looked at me (he was a bit drunk) and asked 'what's your name young man?' So I replied, Paul and he said, 'Nice to meet you young man, I'm Brian.' Like I didn't know. He then went on to very graciously thank me for the compliment and ever since I have been made up, having had the chance to meet the man who made me proud to be a Forest fan.
That meeting is even more poignant now that he has gone, I'll remember that brief exchange for ever. I don't generally have heroes, I gave that up when I was a kid, but Cloughie was a legend and I'm glad I got to meet him. RIP old big 'ed, you'll always be a legend to us Forest fans.
