Does anyone know if any music software companies are planning on utilising the new 64 bit cpu's? It seams a little pointless getting one at the min since thier is no support for them? And if there was, would it make any difference??

i'm getting a 64 bit processor on my new pc, apperently it will run 32 bit proggies a bit better (so i've been told)
and if you have one at least your ready for the future
Ive only just thought...
Wouldnt you need a 64 bit o/s for it to be of any benefit?

also, when everything is running in 64bit, then you would see a huge benefit.
I would wait though, as a load of new processors are about to come out, i would personally give it another year for the prices to drop

cubase sx 3 is going to be 64 bit ready, but can still be used on a 32 bit o/s. I would wait to. Im persoanlly waiting for everything to start coming out 64 bit, and that includes VST's
Sonalksis plug ins r now 64 bit and apparently sound sweet

With a 64bit os (i.e. win64) ur gonna need new drivers for everything in ur PC... a potential nightmare at this stage. Wait until the os is fully supported and then get a 64bit cpu. By this time u'll get more bang for bucks anyway

I'm definitely going to be wating awhile before going the 64 bit route. I've got an AMD 2200+ XP right now. I'm hoping that as soon as they really start to push the 64bit processors hard, I'll be able to upgrade to a P4 3.2ghz 800 FSB with some ram for roughly $250. That'd be more power than I'm used to and would keep me going well into the time when 64bit becomes tried, tested, and standardized.

Not nessisarrily. There have been cases that softwear could suport hardwear that wasnt reconised by the OS. (for example G4's (i think it was) came with dual processors yet MacOS 9 (newest MacOS at the time) didnt support them. however packages such as photoshop did.)Originally Posted by IQ
