I just think that the overall genre of techno has exploded immensly in the past 3 years. It used to be hard banging techno, and thats about it I guess. But nowadays, you have groovy techno, hard banging techno, trancey techno, all these forms of techno.

Which leads me onto another problem in techno - people who think it is, or has ever been, "hard banging techno and thats about it". I know a lot of these people are young and are being conditioned by clubs by Atomic Jam and Orbit into thinking there should be no variety in techno, that it should just be hard pummeling loops and majestic breakdowns with even harder comebacks...for this I blame the DJs and promoters who take the easy option and continue to play music/book acts that have never and will never show a scrap of innovation...but "know how to get a crowd going". F u c k yeah, have someone like Mike Parker or Kunio Asai down there and the kids will be crying for their mummys cos the music is actually stimulating their minds for once. ooooh, scary.
