Default SAT.18.DEC: rizumu with Scan 7 'Live'

    RIZUMU @ THE METRO LOUNGE
    SATURDAY DECEMBER 18th 2004

    SCAN 7 : DETROIT, MICHIGAN
    www.scan7.com : www.tresorberlin.de : www.undergroundresistance.com

In their first ever Philadelphia exhibition, Scan 7 is coming straight
out of Detroit with a hardware based "Live PA" and their own hypnotic
visuals. Remaining hidden behind their ninja-like appearances, these
anonymous heroes will provide a safe passage out of the sound slavery
    of corporate programming.

The true identity of Scan 7 remains a mystery. Always performing
masked -- a proof of their link with Detroit's powerhouse Underground
Resistance -- they believe it's important not who you see but what you
hear. Their dark and funky dance floor music and incredible
imaginations have brought them to the most credible underground labels
in the world: Tresor, UR, SID, FCOM, Elypsia, and their own label,
    Cratesavers.

"A lot of people mistook our masks for terrorism or militancy...
You might get into these sounds if you use your ears and not your eyes. That is the purpose behind the masks... It is more important what comes out the
speakers then what we look like."
    - Mad Mike Banks

"And let's give a very special thanks to One Of 7' & TrackMasta Lou of
SCAN 7 for pioneering TBPT, and preserving our Detroit Techno and
electronic music heritage, culture, and integrity for Detroit and for the
world, now & forever." from article

. . and the Philly Weekly write up :

In terms of intrigue, there's nothing better than a disguised DJ. After all, who could emerge from the already faceless digital underground in a veil? Such curious turntablists are out there, taking the form of clever performers and social anarchists behind their masks. And where Daft Punk's elaborate getups can seem gimmicky, Detroit's Scan 7 manages to maintain an air of authenticity. A collective whose true identity remains unknown, Scan 7's been marking its territory behind ninja-style masks since Derrick May hatched on the same Detroit scene. With past links to the Underground Resistance imprint, the various members subscribe to an ethos that only the music should be heard. The same body-jacking funk intensity can be found on all their recordings for the labels Elypsia, Tresor, UR and their own Cratesavers as well as their high-tech live PA shows. While the real selling point could be Scan 7's absolute refusal to conform to commercial accessibility, that's just fine by the members. Nothing like a rumor gets people to listen. (Suzann Vogel)

not only did this event defy all odds by having a good turn out, but it had to be the highest crowd attendence of any techno event of the year (in philly that is).
