Default HARDWARE LIVE SETUP- What next??

    Hi,

I have just got my live set almost together after alot of work and savings..

    Ive got

Akai mpc 2000xl seq/drum machine plus analogue filter bank for it.
    Access Virus indigo synth
    Yamaha su 700 loop/phrase sampler
    Makie mixing desk 1604vlz

But i want to add some more fx units and outboard gear.

Not really sure what to go for, should i go for compressors or fx or summin else....what pieces of gear do you reccomend? say on a 500- 1k buget, what what you buy to compliment the rest of my setup??

    Thanks,
    G

just on single tracks via the inserts, usally just use it on the kick from the 909 cause most of the other loops and that have been processed.

it would be great if the 1604 had inserts on the sub outs cause you could the really get mix pumping by routeing differnet channels to the subs, think its possible on some of the bigger mackies though

looks like you need something analogue to mix in with all that digital gear.
maybe an DSI Evolver? or Analogue drum machine/module?

I dunno, Something you can really tweak up on the fly would be ideal I reckon....

considering that most of your gear has onboard fx, i think your best bang for the buck would come from adding a couple compressors. maybe a dbx 166xl for the kick and bass and a focusrite for the rest of the mix...

I`d go for a focusrite to apply to the whole mix.
Maybe a behringer for the kick.
    A Khaos Pad for FX
And a good multi fx unit
    Solitary by nature.
    Isolation is the gift.
Does anyone have courage to stand apart any more?

Speaking of Focusrite.. anyone ever used a Compounder?
I've been thinking about one lately...

Currently I use a TC Triple-C (in multiband mode) on my final stereo signal, and a mono Triple-C in envelope mode on the kick.

personally, i don't trust bass expanders (something about wanting to be sure that every sound is there because i put it there). but maybe i'm just paranoid. would be very interested to hear if anybody has positive things to say about them.

If u can afford it, a few different types of compressor/limiter..

and a tube compressor if u can. lovely to warm up basslines

Focusrite platinum compounder is an excellent piece of kit. The huge bass enhancer is very usefull towards the end of your mix if it is lacking in that area.
