    Default Dj competions stink!!!!

    right i have an issue.
I was walking past bar med in wigan my town centre today and psotted a sign on the door that says "barcardi dj competion".
I got an application form and it said that i have to declare that i am over 18!!!
I thought ok yea they have to protect there licence but im sure i can blag it. But i dont look 18 anyways so what do i do???
I know that its a shit thing to do anyways but i might aswell have a blast.
I know from the quality of dj in wigan that i could easily get far with no hasle.
Im 17 in two weeks but i still think i couldnt get into it.

What do all you guys think of dj competions???
Have any of you blagged your way into these before???
Is it worth risking my ass for it anyway?

your thoughts would be muchly appreciated.

Just go for it mate! You wont be risking your ass as its the night clubs responsebility. I was doin comp's at 15 and no-one even asked my age! As for what i think of competitions- Im in the technics dmc championships this year, and its on my mind quite a lot, the first heat is in two weeks and i havent even got a set together yet!! So yeah i think comps are a good idea. I reacently did a dj comp at a local bar for a laugh, they were looking for your cheezy dance jocks, but i banged out Dj shredda and started dancin around like a madman !Then i went and banged outsome gabber. Hahaha, the look on thier faces was worth loosing!!!

Is there any risks that could get me in trouble?
Like getting sued for ****ing up the comp?
I dont like lieing about my age but i realy have to blitz this comp.
If i dont entre im definatly entering Djcraig ryan cause he deserves the right to show wigan what real trance is.
Plus if he wins (highly likerly) it will be a testimony to me anyways, cause i taught him!!

The only thing stopping me is the signature at the bottom of the page which says that i am over 18. anymore ideas?

There's a couple of things you need to be aware of,

    1. Your not alowed on the premesis becuase your under 18, but thats the clubs problem not yours(you cant get done for being in there)

    2. The main problem deppends on what u win, if u win a residency, then u cant legally get paid for it, and the club wont let u in.

But saying this, if you do sign it, and you are let into the comp, no-one will prosecute you, its not worth the effort. And if you win the comp, at least u will get ur name about!

the prices are to compete in the nation wide comp. Then if ya win that then you go onto the world series in amsterdam. :?
no residentcies available but plenty slots.

so the general vibe is for me to just go for it?

    Ideas anyone?

Cascade I def think you should go for it, the sound you play is ideal for places like Bar Med. Plus your 16 and younger DJ's are a very sort after bunch.

yeah deffinitley go 4 it m8, the clubs the only people that will get in trouble. even if you win but they find out your age, you will still get the biggest buzz ever, even if they dont let you have the prize!!

Got the date for the comp guys and guess what,

Its on the 13th of may, which is ironically my 17th birthday. It doesnt get any better than this.
This means i can just say that i was 17 when i entered but i would be 18 by the time i play. Crazy.

With this being my first officially gig in a club, has anyone got any tips that i should know about???

I heard that with the system being that loud its quite hard to hear the music. Is this true and how can it be helped?

As long as the monitoring is decent you shouldn't have any problems. It's actually a lot easier mixing with a loud monitor speaker.

I'd recommend turning the booth monitor down/off every now and then during your set to check the front of house sound as well. Nothing worse than finding out at the end of a set that you've had lovely sharp monitors, but the main rig has been ragged to fck and is sounding awful.....which means all your mixes sound awful to the people on the floor. It's always good to check that you and the people on the floor are hearing the same thing.
