Yep, Quality tune, Pimp 006 (James Di Griz) - also has a phatt as **** kick drum, just a shame the whole drum track got reused for a track on player 17 or 18 just with a dif b'line, but very chunky beatz none the less...

    How do they do it?!?!?

im seeing him at the end of the month so i'll talk to him and ask him.

You can always get a decent kick from layering an compressing. Over compression is not the answer. A good compressor does help, the waves compressors are great.

27th at pure techno in hull

His mum lives in my home town and a girl-friend of mine is seeing him at the moment. I get to chat with him from time to time. Im also the VJ for Pure Techno and Im playing as part of the mash up there on the 27th...

I'll ask him, don't know if he'll tell me, but ill ask him never the less. failing that ill ask phil walls (tune inn, yin yang) he told him how to do it, so the technique is about the same.

as for further technique tips, try a hard limit after saturating it...

aaah yess, i think i should try that saturation advice, m8!
any suggestions for a suitable plug?

    something like this, perhaps ?:

    BAXXPANDER

    http://www.uv.es/%7Eruizcan/p_vst.htm

    http://www.uv.es/%7Eruizcan/sintes/baxxpander_v12.zip

    Vintage style saturation/bass expander unit,
presented as VST effect. We think this plugin is specially good to add warmth and saturation to drums
and basses, and with vocal tracks that need a little punch. It uses very little CPU, and includes 8 factory presets.

Just spoke phil walls and he reliably tells me wilko works entirely in acid 1, soundforge and t-racks

    and i quote

    Phil Walls says:
and his computers the slowest you've ever witnesed
    Phil Walls says:
but he still gets the results

Also phil says that wilko works layering kicks. EQing things into the right places.

ill ask him like i said on 27th for ya, he might be more precise.. hope so.

some more free saturation, anyone? ;)

    Comprimere

    Saturation VST Plugin

haven't tried the above one yet...

    dominion

    signal modelling device

    What is dominion?
If you were searching for a tool to shape the envelope of a signal, giving you total control of the signal's attack & sustain phase, dominion is certainly something for you!
But it's got more to offer...
A short overview of the features:

Envelope section. Adjust attack & sustain independently, regardless of input level. Plus, you have control over the envelopes' time constants. Imagine pulling a drummer up front or pushing him to the background by dragging just a single slider! Feel like moving the walls around him? Again, a single push enhances the room information or can make the sound really dry.
Imagine doing things like this with other instruments as well... :)

Saturation stage. Following digitalfishphones tradition, the plugin can help to reduce harshness often associated with digital recordings, giving back some warmth and life to your source by modelling classic analog equipment. The tonal character stays adjustable within a broad range.

High frequency details section. Similar to classic exciter circuits, this section allows you to brighten up a signal, giving transparency and depth by generating additional harmonics.

Non-clipping output stage. Like the endorphin compressor, a brickwall waveshaper circuit ensures that the output won't exceed -0.1dBFS, while remaining sonically clean.
