    SubOct

Free PC VSTi sub octave distortor

SubOct splits the incoming signal into a low and high band and adds sub octave distortion to these signals (from 0 to -3 octaves below the signal)

This distortion is filtered and is mixed with the original signal

"I created Hoovermaker, and Aftershock. Now comes my 3rd hard plugin.

Do you need hard cold raw hostile unforgiving basses? Then don't miss out this beta.

With over 2200 waveforms this will put some serious power to your basses.

So what is this shitty plugin then?

    * PD oscilator connected through 33 different selectable waveshapers 1 at the time.
    * No nice GUI (under development).
    * No good patches (bank under development). "

    Vanilla Compressor

The Vanilla Compressor is a general-purpose, stereo compressor plugin, with optional sidechain input. It can be used on individual instruments, across aux busses, or even as a mastering effect. Its fine-tuned, “smooth as buttah” sidechain and specialized release shapes make it equally at home with vocals, drums, guitars and full mixes. Use it sparingly for subtle, transparent “tightening”; or drive it hard and fast for deep, “balls-to-the-walls” pumping. Obviously, there isn’t anything revolutionary about the Vanilla Compressor. This compressor isn’t about bells and whistles; it’s about getting the right sound, quickly and easily. Go ahead–try a little Vanilla!

The Vanilla Compressor is currently in the alpha stage, and is free to download and evaluate.

(Please note: As of this moment, the Vanilla Compressor does not have its own custom GUI, and must be accessed via the VST host program’s default GUI. We appologize for this, and hope to have a GUI in the near future.)

    GSnap

GSnap is an auto-tune effect. It can be used subtly to correct the pitch of a vocal, or, with more extreme settings, to create a robot-voice effect.

For GSnap to work effectively, the input signal should be monophonic, at a good level and reasonably noise-free. For example, a clean, mono vocal recording, without excessive noise or reverb. Effect plug-ins should be placed after GSnap in the signal chain.

GSnap starts off by detecting the pitch of the incoming audio. The Min Freq and Max Freq parameters help the pitch-detector by narrowing the range of frequencies it needs to consider. Also, the Gate parameter should be set so that the pitch-detector ignores background noise during "silent" passages.

The Speed parameter sets the number of wave repetitions required for positive pitch-detection. Lower values for Speed will allow faster pitch-detection, but will increase the chance of false detection. The default value should be fine in most cases.

Once a pitch has been determined, GSnap applies the specified pitch-correction. There are two modes of pitch correction: fixed scale and MIDI. Fixed scale correction has a fixed set of snap-notes, while MIDI correction is controlled in real time by MIDI data.

The Threshold parameter sets the largest pitch-shift that will be applied to the input. It defines a region around each snap-note that will be corrected to that note. The GUI shows the snap-notes and regions in effect at any time.

The pitch-detection and correction can be made to use a different reference frequency using the Calibrate parameter. This sets the frequency of A above middle C.

Additionally, GSnap will respond to pitch-bend and modulation MIDI messages to apply pitch-bend and vibrato. The Pitch Bend, Vibrato and Vib Speed parameters control these effects.

    Parameters
Min Freq: The minimum frequency that the pitch-detector will look for.

Max Freq: The maximum frequency that the pitch-detector will look for.

Gate: The minimum input peak level required to trigger the pitch-detector.

Speed: The number of wave cycles required for a positive match.

Correction Mode: Fixed scale or MIDI controlled.

Threshold: Defines the snapping region around each snap-note.

Amount: The amount of correction applied.

Attack: The time taken to reach full correction.

Release: The time taken to return to normal after correction has finished.

Pitch Bend: The maximum pitch-change caused by the pitch-bend wheel.

Vibrato: The maximum range of the vibrato triggered by the modulation wheel.

Vib Speed: The speed of the vibrato.

Calibrate: The frequency of A above middle C used for pitch detection and correction.

Notes On/Off: In fixed scale mode, the keyboard notes can be switched on or off, indicating whether they should or should not be considered as snap-notes.

    Requirements
You need a PC running Windows and a VST host.

The GVST plug-ins also require "gdiplus.dll". If you use Windows XP then you should already have this file and don't need to do anything. If you use an older version of Windows then you may need to install it.

To install "gdiplus.dll", download the ZIP file below, extract the DLL and place it in the "system32" sub-folder of your Windows folder.

For all of you liking the BBE sonic maximizer. Here's a free and (far) better approach:

CLAS - Compressive Loudness Audio Shaping

CLAS (Compressive Loudness Audio Shaping) is a tool that provides both progressive phase compensation for bass frequencies, and psychoacoustic bass and/or treble enhancement. We use CLAS most often when listening to track edits on the master channel, purely for our pleasure.

The effect is similar to BBE treatment, but without being "in your face!". Psychoacoustic compression is similar to many classic compression curves, producing the most boost at low sound levels, and progressively tapering off to no-boost at extreme loud levels. This is more pleasing to listen to than typical linear compression, and accounts for the appeal of many classic analog compressors. The effect, in CLAS, is much like dynamic Loudness Contouring.

CLAS works best on Stereo channels, but it is also capable of running on Mono tracks. The left and right channel compressors are tied together in order to retain stereo field balance.

The progressive bass group delay acts almost independently of the bass and treble enhancement. Bass and treble enhancement are separately applied. The enhancement levels are nonlinear functions of the actual dB boost provided internally, so we map them to the faders for you so that you get the boost you ask for.

    SideKick v3

    Description
The SideKick is a sidechain emulator for the VST platform.

This is the 1st release candidate of version 3. If you find a bug please report this to me by email

    development@twistedlemon.nl

    What's new?
The SideKickV3 is stereo and has it's own routing system to select sidechain(s). Now you just have to load 2 Sidekick's in 2 seperate channels and link them together. The goal was to make quick an easy solution for stereo sidechaining in VST hosts.

    What does it do?
As said before this plugin acts as a sidechain emulator. 'Sidechaining' is useing one audio stream to influence the amplitude of another audio stream. For instance a basskick track/channel that pushes the amplitude down of another channel/track every time the basskick sounds. Named 'ducking'.

    Usage

    Routing

Sending audio input to virtual channel
The selection to which channel the audio is send, is done automaticly. Each time a instance of the plugin is created it will send it's stereo audio-input to a different virtual channel. When there are no virtual channels left a red X is displayed. You can see to which virtual channel the audio is send under the SidekKickV3 logo in the plugin GUI.

The virtual channels stereo and are accessible by all other instances of the SideKickV3 plugin. (There are max. 4 channels available namely; Alpa, Beta, Gamma & Delta).

    Receiveing audio (sidechaining your audio)
To receive audio from the virtual channels Alpha, Beta, Gamma and/or Delta, do the following:
Open a SideKickV3 on the (stereo)channel you want to sidechain and select the virtual channels (Alpha, Beta, Gamma and/or Delta) under 'use virtual channel' to use the audio on those virtual channels as sidechain input.

Note: This plugin needs to be loaded twice into 2 seperate channels in your VST host to be able to work. Because the plugins can 'see' eachother and use each others audio input.

    Bypass
Is turned on by default... don't forget to turn it off, if you want to sidechain your audio ;-)

    Ducking/Keying (invert the effect)
Ducking only lets audio though when theres NO audio on the sidechain. When keying does the opposite.

    Attack
The attack of the keying or ducking effect. (0 to 2000 miliseconds)

    Release
The release of the keying or ducking effect. (0 to 1000 miliseconds)

Note: when both attack and release are set really low its possible to heart a crackle. This is normal and I left it in because I think it is musically effective. (it sounds cool...)

    Threshold
The threshold selects the minimum level (in dB) where the effect can detect audio on the sidechain for the effect.

    Effect strenght
Gives a visual representation of the current strenght of the effect.

Known Bugs / Restrictions / Limitations

The 1st restriction is not to have 2 projects opened at the same time which both use the SideKickV3.
The SideKickV3 is not tested for useage with 2 or more openend projects that both simultaniously use the SideKickV3 at the same time. This could cause the plugin not to function. Especially if both projects want to use the same virtual channels.
Also, the SideKickV3 can not function across 2 different hosts. In theory it should work if both hosts are useing the same buffersize. But the SideKickV3 is not designed for this purpose and is therefore not recommended.

In Ableton live (maybe in other host's too): When you have a project open that uses the SideKickV3 and then directly open another saved project that also used the SideKickV3, can cause the effect not to function.
    - A remedy is to 'first close' the 1st project and then open the 2nd project

I'm looking into these limitations to fix them in the future.

    WOW & FLUTTER

A VST plug-in which emulates the playback speed imperfections of the pre-digital era.

    Features:

    - playback speed is modulated in realtime by up to six oscillators
    - intuitive controls: Non-linearly scaled controls allow to directly set the perceived pitch deviation depth and rate resulting from the playback speed modulation.
    - dual mode: In dual mode the left and the right channel are modulated separately.
    - flange mode: When the modulated signal is mixed with the original signal a flanging effect occurs. This feature recalls the times when recording engineers created a flange effect by applying pressure on the tape reel with their hand. Additional controls for feedback and delay allow to create more intense flange effects. Although the unit can be pushed to self-oscillation in extreme settings it will never cause digital clipping thanks to a compressor algorithm inserted into the feedback path.
    - A built-in test tone generator makes it easy to quickly check a particular setting with different signals or to use the plug-in as a self-contained "noise maker".
    - If a control has no influence on the sound in a certain mode it will disappear from the surface.
    - All parameters are controllable by midi controllers.
    - Pop-up hints help to understand the function of each control on the user interface. These appear when the mouse rests over a control.
    - Also the assignment of midi controllers is documented in the pop-up hints.

    ECHOLIVE

"I built this plug-in for a live performance at the Bazillus Club in Zurich. It features a tap tempo function which makes it easy to create echoes that fit the timing of a live band. "

    Features:

    - the delay time can be defined by tapping the tempo with the mouse or on a midi keyboard or midi controller
    - alternatively the delaytime can also be set manually or synchronized with the host application.
    - latency compensation: you can compensate your soundcard's latency for perfectly timed echoes in live applications.
    - tape model including tape saturation, tape hiss, wow & flutter, low and high pass filtering, smooth parameter for continuous delay time changes like on a real tape delay
    - stereo-control: ping pong delay, time symmetry, stereo width
    - all parameters are controllable by midi controllers.
    - pop-up hints help to understand the function of each control on the user interface. These appear when the mouse rests over a control.
    - also the assignement of midi controllers is documented in the pop-up hints
